Halftime entertainment: This wasn't the first time this season I'd seen the Pizza Pizza delivery guy mime to lucky fans
that they'd won a pizza for their row called out by the PA announcer. This schtick was used at BMO Field for years. I noticed
that one of the seats called was "Section 500, Row 1, Seat 21" which was just six seats away from my SSH seat which
I've never used.
I also noticed that only the Pacific subs stayed on the field to warm up.

Final Score:...York United FC........0........Cavalry FC.....1.......
Attendance wasn't announced and doesn't show up on the league website [as of Tuesday night]. The crowd looked comparable to their last home game which was back on May 29th so in three weeks the momentum has been killed. It also doesn't help that in their two road games in between, they haven't scored a goal. After today that streak stretches to six league games. Their last game that they scored (they won 1-0 was to Forge FC on May 6th. Referee Filip Dujic gave out two Yellow cards to each team. If York could play that disciplined in the last month, they wouldn't have had such a small lineup and could have rested some players to avoid injury. York has been devastated by injuries (yes so have other teams). York didn't even have enough players to fill the subs bench (seven allowed) and that was with a guy signed from League1 Ontario that the coach only met yesterday! Aidan Hugo played for the North Toronto Nitros as a defender. His NTN coach a month ago tipped me off that he had left to try out for Atletico Ottawa. Sebastian Gutierrez only played 31 minutes before having to be subbed off for an injury but it's still uncertain if he will join the injury list. How will they play their Canadian Championship semi-final game on Wednesday against MLS Vancouver Whitecaps who must be able to draw among 50 players in their organization. York is also in a scoring slump so this game could get ugly. A video was played at halftime showing all the York goals. "This will be short" I said to a colleague. With various camera angles of the same goals, they were able to stretch it out. Besides all the injuries, York was getting by without Lowell Wright who is playing with the Canada U-20 team playing in the Concacaf Championships which will be used in Olympic qualifying. Also Cedric Toussaint received a three game suspension for his Red card in their last game in Ottawa. On the Fotmob site, Pacific had something like 72% possession in the first half and it was pulled down to 66.3% by the end of the game with York actually playing better with more chances to score. The Pacific coach said that other teams are letting Pacific hold onto the ball and trying to score on the counterattack. Pacific are the current CPL champions so other teams are looking at them with respect. The league site lists York as having eight shots but only one on target and Pacific had three with all on target. This was Diyaeddine Abzi's last home game as he's signed a deal to play for Pau FC in the French Ligue 2. (I looked that up and it is the second best league in France as opposed to England where the Second Division is actually the fourth best). Today the game started as if the players were setting him up to score but it soon became that he was setting up his teammates. Nothing worked. He will play one more game for York before leaving and that' against the MLS Vancouver Whitecaps. Today was his 75th game for the team. York has signed Canadian forward Rohan Kratt but he can't play until the transfer window opens up on July 7th. Toronto FC is having the same problem with their potential signings. Looks like three more league games before York can get some players on the field. The result for York actually raises them a point above Valour FC and into sole possession of sixth place at 11 points. With tomorrow's game between HFX Wanderers and Forge FC in Halifax and both teams tied for fourth with 14 points, I expect the bar to be raised to get that last playoff spot. York's record is now 2 wins, 4 losses, 5 ties (the most in the league) for 11 points. They hold the record for fewest goals conceded at only seven, but also the record for fewest goals scored at six. Pacific FC's record improves to 5 wins, 3 losses, 4 ties for 19 points. They are in second place but have been brought back to earth by not getting a win in their last five league games. York's next league game is a home game next Sunday against fellow struggler Valour FC. The game has moved its starting time from 2:00pm to 12:00pm (noon) so the special friendly with the Canadian Women's team playing South Korea which will start at 3:00pm. That game will be played at BMO Field in downtown Toronto. The time change will let both games play well on the OneSoccer TV schedule but won't allow enough time for fans to see both games in the city...traffic, security checks etc. Let's say as nice as the weather might be, York will not be setting any attendance records on Sunday.
