'THERE’S A LOT TO LOOK FORWARD TO': NASH TURNS FOCUS TO FRIDAY AFTER FRUSTRATING DEFEAT There was plenty of controversy in a season opening loss to HFX Wanderers. Martin Nash has taken defeat in his first competitive assignment as Head Coach on the chin but has vowed to improve. The York United gaffer had his special Canadian Premier League occasion marred by HFX Wanderers in a 1-0 defeat at home on Thursday night. A 53rd minute penalty from João Morelli proved the difference between the sides at York Lions Stadium. This was after captain Roger Thompson's clumsy challenge on Cory Bent inside the box and referee Yusri Rudolf did not baulk at pointing to the spot. The Nine Stripes put up a stirred up display afterwards but could not cancel out that goal despite some near misses. "It always hurts," Nash said at his post-match conference. "I've been around professional soccer now for the better part of 25 years and every loss hurts. It's not nice but I've got to look at the positives and the good things we did and correct a few things we didn't do well. Then it's about keep getting better at the things we did well. "So there's a lot to look forward to. It'll be interesting to look back at the game and see where we could have been better and see what we can improve on. There's definitely always room for improvement and it's really early in the season." Nash went into the season opener with some of his key players out injured or playing through pain barriers. Winger Max Ferrari picked up a knock during the team's pre-season camp on the west coast and was ruled out while new striker Martin Graiciar suffered concussion in training and faces a number of weeks on the sidelines. Left-back Diyaeddine Abzi and Mateo Hernandez - who was sent-off for a deliberate handball in the dying embers of the game - both had injury concerns and started on the bench. Nonetheless, Nash is refusing to make excuses. "We missed quite a few guys in preseason. We just got them back recently so I think there's only up from here," he added.
