Halftime: Only the Masters substitutes stay on the field to warm up. The temperature is a lot cooler now. I'm glad I wore
a windbreaker and brought mosquito spray.

Attendance was about 50 on this night which started off warm but the temperature dropped after the sun
set and windbreakers were recommended for the second half. The sun was already below the tree line
before the first half started. A crowd of at 100 people were playing co-ed ultimate frisbee
at a training camp/practice in the field beside ours. This time it was one of our soccer balls that
cleared the fence between us.

This game was close and Hamilton only made one sub from their bench choice of seven and waited
until 83 minutes.

Referee Roain Satarzadeh issued five Yellow cards (two to Masters) with two to Hamilton being for
arguing calls.

Hamilton looked to have their winning goal at 57 minutes when Amir Shirazi one-touched a low shot
from 15 yards but it was called back offside. Kyle Cordeiro earned a Yellow for arguing the call.

Miles Green is the league's scoring race leader with 21 goals in now 19 games. He usually had
two defenders shadowing him whenever I looked his way, but he did get an assist on each goal.

The other best non-scoring chances were at 34 minutes when HUE Miles Green ran up the left and sent
a low 20 yard shot that the goalie saved by a sprawl and a defender blocked an HUE players rebound
then was called offside. 38 minutes when Masters Iyowuna Jumbo stole the ball off HUE Nolan Bosetti
and his low quick 28 yard shot from the right had the goalie slide at 15 yards to deflect the ball
wide right for a throw-in. Two minutes later an HUE cross had a diving defender settle the ball
down but deflect it off HUE Jacob Geyer at 5 yards and the goalie smothered on the left post.
76 minutes had MFA Francis Ameyaw run on the left and send a 15 yard roller between players that
the goalie was able to smother. 82 minutes and Ameyaw on a break on the left and rounded the goalie
on the left edge of the box and tapped a centering pass back but HUE Ahmad Mansour was able
to intercept and clear.

Masters still has two games to play. They had two games earlier this season called off. One was
because the stadium lights weren't 'bright' enough and another was the nets weren't up to standards.
I was paying attention to that tonight and saw that the nets looked alright. I don't know if the
metal had been bent or damaged or the netting had too many holes in it. The lighting is never
very bright here which cuts into my write up of play-by-play. The goal/nets game was eventually
played turning it into a road game against fellow strugglers Pickering FC which Pickering won 4-3.
The 'poor lighting' game will be played the weekend after the regular season ends against Burlington
to complete the schedule while the playoffs continue for the top six teams. With all points counting
towards the division split in 2024, these games count for survival in the top division. Most common
reason for postponed games this season have been for lightning delays. I was in Vaughan to watch
the Azzurri play Hamilton just over three weeks ago and that game was 0-0 at the half but will
be replayed from the start this Tuesday night. Hmm maybe that's why Hamilton rested their bench.

So a quirk in tonight's game. Masters trying to make a sub at 83 minutes desparately as captain
Tristan Frankson had to be helped off the field by the trainer. Luis Pari Cortez is ready to come
on but nooo. He has to remove a piece of nose jewelry before he can (not just apply tape over it
which he says was OK in previous games). Three minutes lost before Josiah Lorray (2004) comes on
and almost ties the game on a tip-in attempt that went just wide of the post in injury time.
So way back on May 14th, Malik Henry of Hamilton had been ordered off the field before the start
of the Alliance vs Hamilton game. He must have got lost in the corridors of Centennial College
or the piece of nose jewelry he had to remove was painful but he came back at the 7 minute mark
and settled in but Alliance already had the lead.

This was the last game of today so the standings will hold until the three games tomorrow.

Hamilton's record improves to 10 wins, 8 losses, 1 tie for 31 points with a goals for/against record
of +9. They are ninth passing Electric City FC, just one + behind eighth place Sigma FC. None of
those teams can make the top six playoffs with one more weekend to go.

Master's record falls to 2 wins, 12 losses, 5 ties for 11 points with a goals for/against of -22.
They are twenty-first in the twenty-two team league.

The all important twelfth place points bar is 25 points held by Scrosoppi FC who still has to play
this weekend and can raise that higher. The bottom ten teams at the end of 2023 will be relegated
to a newly forming second tier 'Championship Division' with promotion and relegation but with only
one team moving up and one down each year between that and the current Premier Division after that
year. Points this season will be carried forward at 75% and combined with next year's points at 100%
to decide who stays and drops for 2024.
