xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Any YouTube coverage of the Vaughan vs Hamilton was called off before it began with the guys not even setting up because of the threatening storm. First half played out without a drop of rain and a 0-0 score. The second half was delayed because of lightning in the distance. Should have been 9:05pm...15 minutes after first half ended. Every bolt of lightning restarts the countdown at 30 minutes. Really 9:45pm would have been the last moment to start but another bolt went off. OK 30 minutes until last bolt takes it to 10:15pm. 45 minutes plus maybe 5 minutes stoppage time. 11:05pm. Stadium lights are shut off at 11:05pm sharp as there's a subdivision backing onto this property. City of Vaughan rules! Now the entire game has to be replayed. Attendance climbed to about 80 by the end of the first half. The game was played on Soccer Field #1. This is the field where the stands are inside the fenced area. All season the games have been bouncing between #1 and #2. Complaints by match officials that some in the crowd were too close to the sidelines and some had stepped onto the field had got later games in the season moved to #2. I'm glad it was field #1 tonight. No worry about staring into the sun as it was overcast (#1 stands face West) and best, #1 has two geometrically 'umbrella' shaped coverings that can have about 15 people each cower under them to keep out of the rain. Referee Ryan Schwenger gave out no cards in the first half in what was a close checking game that had frequent whistles that broke up any momentum. Schwenger was the one who had to call off the game for the reasons outlined above. Most of the game was played in the Hamilton end but Hamilton did have some good counterattacks. Simon Grande was in net for Hamilton and Christian Calabro for Vaughan. VA Massimo Ferrin had three freekicks from about 25 yards out down the middle and put them all over the net. If there was something to look forward to, the third one was the closest one yet to being on target. Maybe another few and he would have found his range. Best chances were at 19 minutes when VA Raheem Rose ran to the right end line and his 15 yard shot eluded the goalie and VA Dylan Carreiro at 10 yards on left shot low and the goalie now on the left post sprawled to make the save. 22 minutes had HU Miles Green block a clearance attempt after he was checked off the ball and then rolled a 22 yarder up the middle that the goalie dove left to smother. 37 minutes had VA Carreiro's cornerkick from the right partially cleared and VA Massimo Ferrin fired a 15 yarder into the ground that bounced over the net. 40 minutes had the VA's have about four shots in 30 seconds with the HU goalie having to make a good save on the right post. This was the only game in the league tonight so the standings remain the same. Vaughan Azzurri stay in first place with a record of 11 wins, 0 losses, 3 ties for 36 points. That's the same number of points as North Toronto Nitros but Azzurri have played two less games. Hamilton stay in eighth place with 8 wins, 6 losses, 1 tie for 25 points. Top six teams this season make the playoffs. Top twelve averaged over the next two years survive the division split in the Premier Division with the other ten in the Championship Division. Currently to be twelfth, you need 20 points. (current table results until end of Wednesday night)
