Halftime: Sigma subs stay out to warm up with even the Sigma ball kids staying out. All the Masters players return
to the dressing room.

a player in the wall and tips off Spencer at 10 yards and deflects into right side of net beyond goalie Eduard Amrbus.

Attendance was about 60 for this late scheduled game that took place after most of the Sigma Academy
games/practices were over. That's why the game started at 9:00pm. The rain that had threatened
all evening started at the 1 minute mark and continued overnight with intensity from light to heavy.
Umbrellas were brought by most people who came to watch. I wouldn't have come here tonight except
I could see there were no GTA area games on Friday night. I brought an umbrella but was allowed
to cower under the fourth official/game keeper's tent so I could have my hands free to write notes.

Sigma has more midweek games than the other teams because they were not allowed to host home games
until the last few weeks because the City of Mississauga was using the dome that was on this field
to rent out for something like 4x the rate that they charge for an 'outdoor' field.

13 minutes was the best chance for Masters when a player was knocked off his feet at the 15 yard line
in the Sigma box looking similar to what was given to Sigma less than ten minutes earlier.
A Master's player followed up the non-call with a shot that the goalie sprawled to save.

Referee Hussein Walji gave out three Yellow cards (two to Sigma) during the game. Not really any
sliding tackles on the wet field but maybe they'd be painful on this turf or their coaches instructed
their players don't try them. The trainers did need to be called in a few times and subs made
because of injuries. The referee's assistant and fourth official were busy having to settle
both coaches down.

A blooper for Masters was when they needed to sub for an injured Matthew Groves quickly they brought
in Justin Robertson and there's always the excited player running onfield still wearing his pinney,
but he pulled his off and was called back as he was only wearing a t-shirt and not his #19 jersey!

The win improves Sigma's record to 4 wins, 3 losses, 1 tie for 13 points and they move up to rank
seventh in the standings behind Guelph United because of a lesser +/- level. They are now even
with most other teams who have played eight games. This was their third win in a row of a four
game homestand that ends Saturday.

They played here last Saturday and beat Windsor TFC 3-2 who were twentieth in the standings and now
tonight beat the bottom team who were twenty-second. One more home game this Saturday afternoon
against Vaughan Azzurri who are at the other extreme—being the first place team in the league.
Will having to play three games in eight days take a toll? It's a deep team now that the college
players are back from school for the summer. They didn't even have Saturday's goalie Dino Bontis
on the subs bench tonight however it is getting close to the Concacaf U-20 championships and he was
called up to the team. Yousef Helmy obvioused missed tonight's game after being Red carded on Saturday.
I asked about defensive veteran Kyle Walton last Saturday. A team official answered me that he
is still with Sigma but has responsibilities coaching their academy teams so made way on the L1O
roster for these returning college players. Wow...look out L1O. Sigma should build up enough points
with their college age roster that with the regular season ending much earlier than last year,
stay in that all-important top 12 to survive the division split in 2024.

Master's record falls to 0 wins, 6 losses, 1 tie for 1 point and are last of the twenty-two teams.
They can't say they were tired because this hard luck team couldn't play their Saturday night game
because of a problem with the stadium lights at L'Amoreaux Park. Rick Titus had resigned as the
head coach the week before and Junior Groves, club founder and at the start of the season one
of the co-managers, has taken over as head coach. He brought two extra subs beyond the nine player
bench maximum (and decided before game time who would play). That isn't the sign of a team
who've lost heart.
