Before the game, league commisioner Dino Rossi Jr presented Vaughan coach Patrice Gheisar with the 'Coach of the Year,
Eastern Conference'. In last years abbreviated 12 game regular season they finished first with 11 wins, 1 tie. They then
lost the Semi-Final cross-over playoff game to Blue Devils FC.

First Half:...game starts 8:33pm...The sun has already set. There's a cold temperature was dropping and a strong wind
from the south east.

6 min...Pro Stars Ameer Kinani GOAL...Kinani receives a short pass forward and rolls 20 yard shot up middle into
left corner of net beyond goalie Gianluca Catalano.
9 min...VA Carreiro cornerkick from right is headed down on right side of box and PS start a fast break out.
10 min...Vaughan Dylan Carreiro GOAL...Carreiro on right after short run takes low 22 yard shot/cross to goalie

Attendance was not announced but I'd estimate there were 225 people here.  This was a huge crowd 
for the Azzurri who have one of the best teams talent wise over the years but less fans than 
they deserve.  Admission was free.  The field was changed to #1 because the scoreboard at the 
adjacent #2 wasn't working.  That would have meant that the crowd would be staring into the sun 
but by the time the game started at 8:30pm, the sun had set behind the clouds.   The scoreboard 
at Whitby Soccer Dome wasn't working last night neither.    

There was no overlap with the L1O Women's league game between Vaughan and Pro Stars (this is the 
first time since 2015 that Pro Stars have been in the Women's league).  That game had ended 90 minutes 
earlier with the Azzurri winning 4-0.   I was eating miles away and saw a tweet about these teams 
and panicked thinking they had changed the starting time until I noticed the logo was pink so it had 
been sent from the L1O Women's account.  The players and fans of the L1O women were leaving 
when I arrived.

The temperature was dropping quickly after the sun set so parkas were recommended.  This was the 
only L1O Men's game in the GTA on Sunday.  

Pro Stars goalie Aaron Peters had a horrendous game with some gaffes gifting Vaughan the lead.  
I've seen him have some great games in previous years but this wasn't his night.  Some ProStars 
officials in the stands said they didn't have a back up goalie.  Fumbling the goal into your own 
net for the first, clearing a ball off an opposition player that deflected back into your own net, 
and getting beaten on the short side on a free kick just shouldn't happen.  The last two goals 
weren't his fault as a blast off the underside of the crossbar and a cornerkick with no defender 
close enough to guard the near post could be blamed on the defence.  

Referee Filip Dujic gave out five Yellow card (three to Vaughan) that I noticed *[corrected, 
three to Pro Stars].  Before the players were introduced, the PA announcer read an ad from 
L1O requesting people to become game officials.  Sounds tough but everyone is a 'game official' 
at these games and some Pro Stars fans were riding the referee's assistant on the stands side 
about making offside calls and the referee for 'only' giving out a Yellow for a high boot 
to the chest of a ProStars player near the sideline.  I can understand the shortage of officials. 

This was the second last game of the league's first week (Hamilton United will host Burlington SC 
on Tuesday) but their win tonight should put Vaughan into third place as both Woodbridge and Alliance 
won their games 6-0.  Their next game is here next Sunday at 8:30pm against Scrosoppi FC who beat 
Waterloo United (oops renamed BVB IA Waterloo after I'd printed out my schedule) 2-1 on Friday night.  
Two undefeated teams!  Glamorous teams Guelph United, Electric City FC, Simcoe County Rovers, 
and Blue Devils FC all tied each other. 

Pro Stars FC plays their home opener next Saturday night at 7:00pm at Victoria Park in Brampton 
against Sigma FC who tied 0-0 away against Darby FC on Saturday night.
