Attendance was not announced but wasn't very good on this bright sunny afternoon with warm temperatures at this time of year. Season ticket holders could collect a free scarf courtesy of 'Gary Fraga Real Estate-- Re/Max Ultimate Realty Inc' which was woven into the scarf. I asked the merch table staff and they answered that any not claimed today would be available to the season ticket holders who weren't here at their next game. Toronto FC was also playing today but later tonight so there may have been a few fans taking the subway down there to see that team struggling through a six game losing streak. York plays them Wednesday night at BMO Field in the one-game quarterfinal of the Canadian Championship. I confirmed with York staff that York will be wearing their (Community) white kits for that game. * Late news--Toronto FC beat Nashville FC 2-1 to end their losing streak. HFX were resting a few players with leading scorer Joao Morelli used as a substitute and goalie Christian Oxner also on the bench--although I caught up on some games on OneSoccer against York and he let a stoppable ball through for the late winning goal on August 7th when York pulled a 3-2 upset in Halifax and was chipped late by Alvaro Rivero from 50 yards on September 6th in what would eventually turn into a 3-3 result. HFX are also in the Canadian Championship and will be hosting the other remaining MLS team, Club de Montreal, on Wednesday night. York Max Ferrari was named the CPL Player of the Week this last week. If I heard it right, it was the first time a York United player has ever won that award. He was specially man-marked this afternoon so his chances were limited. This was the first start for Sebastian Gutierrez with York and he played for 60 minutes and had the best scoring chance with his shot that hit the post at 37 minutes. York head coach Jimmy Brennan praised him at the post game press conference and I'd expect him to get more playing time now that he's settled in with the team. Brennan was also happy with York's third clean sheet in a row. The previous results were both 2-0 wins against Forge FC on the road and hosting Atletico Ottawa here on Tuesday night. Today was Dominick Zator's 27th birthday and an HFX tweet came through that it was Pierre Lamothe's birthday today. Both coaches at the post game press conference commented that their teams are tired with all the fixture congestion and Brennan said his squad was lacking energy in the final third. A win for York today would have temporarily tied them with Forge FC for third place in the eight team league. Next Sunday is a game they host against Valour FC, the team they passed to pull into fourth which is the final playoff spot. Valour was in first at the end of 'The Bubble' part of the season when all games were played in Winnipeg (the home of Valour) but have fizzled in the six weeks since that ended. Both teams were happy not to lose ground in the playoff race. York's record improves to 6 wins, 8 ties, 5 losses for 26 points and fourth place. HFX's record is now 5 wins, 7 ties, 6 losses for 22 points and sixth place. These two teams lead the league with most ties so far this season. This is now the third of four matches this season between the teams that have ended in ties so that partially explains it! *Valour earned a tie later this night to stay one point ahead of HFX in fifth place.
