YORK UNITED FC LOANS LISANDRO CABRERA AND MATEO HERNÁNDEZ TO GUADALUPE FC The Argentinean pair had previously been with Atletico Pantoja in the Dominican Republic. Toronto, ON (June 2, 2021) – York United Football Club can confirm both Lisandro Cabrera and Mateo Hernández have joined Costa Rica side Guadalupe FC on loan until the end of the year. The Argentinean pair had been with Dominican Republic outfit Atletico Pantoja but a Covid-19 situation saw the cancellation of the club's most recent league fixture against Jarabacoa FC last weekend and ensured a proposed switch to Guadalupe was fast-tracked for the duo. “It is unfortunate the way a few things have developed timing wise," admits York United FC CEO/President & GM, Angus McNab. "But when Atletico Pantoja’s game was cancelled at the weekend, we all spoke and the decision was made to send the guys to Costa Rica a bit earlier than planned. Guadalupe are a fantastic club and this is a great opportunity to secure a high level of competition for Lisandro and Mateo while we wait on further developments with their work visas.” Cabrera's name will forever be etched in Pantoja's history. The 23-year-old striker, who signed for York United last November, had only been with Atletico for a month when he scored the club's very first goal in the CONCACAF Champions League against Mexican heavyweights Monterrey back in April. Lisandro Cabrera scores a historic goal for Atletico Pantoja in the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League back in April. Circumstances were slightly more challenging for Hernandez. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder only arrived at Pantoja in mid-May but although his time there was brief, he picked up some crucial minutes and impressed many with the calibre of his performances. “I thank Pantoja for their partnership and it was fantastic that Lisandro could play in big CONCACAF Champions League games and score the club’s first ever goal in that competition," says McNab. "Mateo also made an impact in a short period of time and it’s been good to get him back on the field again too.” © 2021 YORK UNITED FC
