Although the teams were even in possession for the first half, Richmond dominated in its offensive half. The Kickers had five shots on goal with many requiring a save or ending up on the wrong side of the post. The best chance came in the 32nd minute when Nil Vinyals curled a free-kick towards the top left corner, only for it to go just wide. The second half was a lot more back and forth, with chances coming on either side. Toronto II’s best chance of the night came in the 87 minute when Kobe Franklin took a curled shot off a free-kick from right outside the box. Richmond goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald was able to block the shot, and his defense cleared the ball from danger. The Kickers outplayed Toronto II offensively, with 19 to six shots taken and 15 to four chances created. A goal was knocking on the door in Richmond for the home team but the minutes were winding down with nothing in the back of the net. In the dying minutes of stoppage time, USL League One’s Golden Boot leader and Kickers captain Emiliano Terzaghi was able to put a head on a ball in the box from a well-taken corner kick to give the home team the win. The goal was Terzaghi’s 13th of the season, and arguably one of the most important so far as the team fights for a spot in the playoffs. TFC II returns to action at home on Friday, when the Young Reds will welcome North Carolina FC to BMO Training Ground.
