RHINOS DRAW WITH TORONTO ON THE ROAD
By Rochester Rhinos , 07/21/16, 10:15AM EDT

Toronto steals a late equalizer for a 1-1 draw

ROCHESTER, NY- The Rhinos started out their road trip this week in a midweek match up against Toronto FC II.
Previously losing to the rivals up north 2-1 earlier in the season, the match offered Rochester a chance
at redemption.

The match was slow to start with little action in the first twenty of the half. Both teams maintained
an even possession, with little action on either end of the pitch. A few soft shots from Dos Santos were
easily grabbed by Toronto goalkeeper Di Bennardo.

In the 26th minute Christian Volesky put the Rhinos ahead with his second goal in two games. On a pass
from Bradley Kamdem who took the ball out of the air, Volesky shot the ball to the center of the net
on a diagonal run across the box. The goal is Volesky’s seventh of the season, making him the team leader.
Six of Volesky’s seven goals have been against Canadian teams.

The Rhinos outshot Toronto 7-1 in the first half.

Toronto came out of the half strong and with purpose, challenging the Rhinos 1-0 lead. The Rhinos had
a chance to light up the scoreboard with a great cross by Kamdem into the box, followed by missed
opportunities from Volesky, Dos Santos, and Reilly.

Di Bennardo in net made the difference in tonight’s game for Toronto. What could have been a high
scoring game was kept close due to his pressure off his line. Toronto came close to evening out
the score in the 70th minute when Edwards went up for a header near the Rhinos six yard box, but
he was unable to get it on net; but the Reds wouldn’t be trailing for long.

Toronto appeared to be in control in the last half of the match, the Rhinos struggled to keep
up with their tempo. Edwards played a ball into Thomas after a rebound on a free kick in the
70th minute, who then headed it into the back of the net to make it 1-1.

The last time the two teams faced each other earlier in the season, two stoppage time goals were
scored one by each team. Neither team was able to recreate that magic in their second meeting.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, extending the Rhinos unbeaten streak to six games.

The Rhinos are now 8-4-6 on the season with 30 points, and 2-3-3 on the road. Their next two games
are road games against Bethlehem Steel FC this Sunday, and the Harrisburg City Islanders on the 29th.
They return home on August 3rd for another midweek match up against the Richmond Kickers.
