Abend takes the fight to Toronto in multi-goal game on: June 22, 2016 By Caitlin Ladd When Louisville City FC midfielder Guy Abend saw his first shot turn into a goal Tuesday night, he dashed to the corner and celebrated by shadow boxing with the flag. Thirteen minutes later, Abend did it again, accounting for half of LouCity’s scoring in a 4-1 victory over Toronto FC II. “I’m a big UFC fan,” he said. “I train in boxing in my spare time. That was some of the moves. Hopefully, I can show you more.” 2016ProgramHeadshots_AbendAbend scored not only his first goals in a LouCity uniform, but the second-year midfielder said he tallied two in one game for the first time on any team. He converted in the 11th and 24th minutes of a first half where LouCity held the majority of possession by a wide margin. “It was a great way we started the game,” Abend said. “The pressure was good, we kept the ball, we were effective-when we got the opportunities, we scored.” •WATCH: Abend’s full postgame press conference A big night for the native of Israel, who grew up in the United States, came a season after he missed much of last season after a pair of knee injuries. Abden said he’s again feeling “confident” about his ability to play, although “it’s never going to be 100 percent.” Fellow midfielder Niall McCabe, who chipped in a 26th-minute goal against Toronto, said he’s “really happy for Guy, because he’s been through so much with his injury.” Abend considered himself lucky to notch a multi-goal game in a season where LouCity leads the 29-team USL with 30 of them in all. Chandler Hoffman has accounted for 10 goals, but 14 Louisville players in all have at least one. •GALLERY: Photos from LouCity’s win “Every day, someone else gives something to the game and as a group we did a great job and made the game a bit easier for us, especially that big of a lead after thirty minutes,” Abend said. He added that moving forward, someone else is going to have a breakout game, showing “how strong the group is.”
