Hounds Garner Long-Awaited Win 05/21/2016, 9:00pm EDT By CHARLIE CORR - charlie.corr@uslsoccer.com Moloto, Hertzog tally second-half goals as Pittsburgh edges Toronto PITTSBURGH – Lebo Moloto scored off a corner kick sequence and Corey Hertzog followed a few minutes later in the second half as the Pittsburgh Riverhounds defeated Toronto FC II by a 2-1 score on Saturday at Highmark Stadium. It marked the Hounds’ long-awaited first win of the season, improving to 1-4-3 (6 points). Malik Johnson’s impressive individual effort down the right side gave Montreal a goal late in the second half. FC Montreal is now the lone team in the USL without a win at 0-8-0. Toronto fell to 2-5-2 (8 points) and 1-3-1 on the road. Scoring: 68’ – PGH – Lebo Moloto (Kevin Kerr) 72’ – PGH – Corey Hertzog 83’ – TOR – Malik Johnson Three Things That Mattered: •1. The Riverhounds’ Lebo Moloto and Kevin Kerr appeared to catch everyone off guard with the side’s 68th-minute corner kick. Kerr quickly tapped from the left corner to Moloto who curled in a beautiful ball top-shelf that eluded TFC II goalkeeper Quillan Roberts and gave Pittsburgh the 1-0 lead. It was Moloto’s first goal of the season and Kerr’s first assist – and point – of the year. •2. Pittsburgh gave itself a cushion in the 72nd minute following a throw-in, working the ball right to left in the box and finishing with Hertzog’s high-paced shot into the upper left corner for the 2-0 advantage. •3. It was a game of inches in the early going when Kerr drew a handball on Toronto’s Jonathan Osorio. After the officials conferred, the free kick was placed just outside the right of the box. Kerr took the subsequent free kick in the 10th minute, connecting with Sergio Campbell who headed it back toward the right of the frame. Roberts punched the ball over the crossbar as Toronto eluded an early deficit. USLSoccer.com Man of the Match: Kevin Kerr, Pittsburgh Riverhounds - As impressive as the two Hounds goals were, the engine for much of the match was Kerr, who assisted the first tally and created several more sequences as he tries to get things going individually to follow up his successful 2015 campaign. Upcoming Games: May 24: Toronto FC II at Harrisburg City Islanders; 7 p.m. ET, Clipper Magazine Stadium May 28: Pittsburgh Riverhounds at New York Red Bulls II; 10 p.m. ET, Red Bull Arena
