April 30, 2016 Toronto FC II--Richmond Kickers vs Toronto FC II match recap (from torontofc.ca)
Match Recap: TFC II 0-1 Richmond Kickers April 30, 2016 9:40 PM EDT Anthony Campos Toronto FC II suffered their second straight defeat on Saturday evening, falling 1-0 to the Richmond Kickers. With the loss TFC II’s record drops to 1-2-2 on the season. The shutout also snapped Raheem Edwards’ four-game goal streak. The Young Reds started off slow at City Stadium and saw Richmond go ahead 10 minutes into the match. Jason Yeisley’s cross from the right flank deflected off TFC II’s Skylar Thomas before Brian Ownby knocked the ball over a flat-footed Alex Bono to give the Kickers the lead. TFC II came close to equalizing in the 29th minute. Sal Bernal picked up the loose ball and made a nice move to open up some space for the shot but Richmond goalkeeper Matt Turner was able to palm it over the bar. Two minutes later Edwards had a decent effort off a free kick from about 30 yards out but Turner read it well and was able to get into position to grab the shot. The Kickers came close to making it 2-0 in the 53rd but luckily for TFC II Yeisley’s low shot struck the post. The Young Reds struggled to get the offense going against a well-organized Richmond midfield and backline and were unable to create any strong scoring opportunities in the second half. In the 75th minute Bono made his best save of the night, diving to his right to keep Owusu-Sekyere’s long-range effort out. Richmond would hold out the rest of the match for the three points. Toronto FC II are back on the pitch this Wednesday, May 4th, at the Ontario Soccer Centre against Louisville City FC at 7:30PM ET.
