Match Recap: TFC II Defeat Rivals FC Montreal April 9, 2016 10:21 PM EDT Anthony Campos Second half goals from substitute Malik Johnson and Raheem Edwards gave Toronto FC II a 2-1 victory over bitter rivals FC Montreal at Olympic Stadium on Saturday. The Young Reds were the stronger side in the first half but not many chances were created for either team. A huge performance by goalkeeper Alex Bono in the second half kept the game scoreless. His best of the match was a big kick save in close on FC Montreal forward Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla in the 58th minute. Second half substitute Malik Johnson made it 1-0 shortly after coming on with an unbelievable solo effort that will surely be a USL goal of the week candidate. Johnson picked up the ball at half and tore through the FC Montreal back line before rounding goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau and slotting it home for the Young Reds. TFC II would retake the lead via Raheem Edwards in the 84th minute. Edwards beat the FC Montreal defender one-on-one before smashing a left-footed shot into the top left corner past Crépeau. Edwards’ goal stood up as the game winner as the Young Reds would take home three points and bragging rights in the first meeting between the two rivals this season. TFC II’s next match is their home opener against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday, April 17 at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
