Johnson Joins TFC II From the Kia Toronto FC Academy January 5, 2016 1:00 PM EST Toronto FC Staff Toronto FC II announced Tuesday that the club has signed midfielder Malik Johnson to a USL contract. As per club and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. “We are pleased to sign another player from our Academy program,” said Toronto FC II Head Coach Jason Bent. “When called upon last year, Malik showed qualities both on and off the pitch that we are looking for in a footballer. We have no doubt Malik will be a welcomed addition to the team.” Johnson, 17, appeared in seven matches, starting in five, while logging 390 minutes during the 2015 USL regular season for Toronto FC II as a call up from the Kia Toronto FC Senior Academy team. He made his first professional start on July 11 against the Rochester Rhinos and his professional debut on July 8 against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Johnson originally joined the Kia Toronto FC Academy in April 2013.
