Slewa Double Takes Pro Stars To 2-1 End Of Season Win Over Oakville 0/02/2016, 11:30pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff Mann Slewa (22', 46') took the Pro Stars to a 2-1 victory over Oakville Blue Devils in the final 2016 league match for both sides. "I thought we played really well tonight," said Slewa. "Defensively we were strong, and we did well moving the ball. We got our first goal and continued to press. We struggled a little bit with the transition - moving the ball up and then having an end product - but other than that it was a solid first half." "Ultimately, I'm here to give experience to the young guys," added Slewa. "That's all I'm here for, to guide them and be a role model for them. Hopefully they can see they are not only going to learn from me but obviously also from the other experienced players in League1. All they have to do is take that with them for the next season." Oakville's Jamari Whyte (81') chipped in with the only goal for Oakville, to end a campaign that has been difficult for the 2015 League1 Ontario and Inter-Provincial Cup champions. "We looked strong in preseason and then we lost so many so quickly that it became a scramble for us," explained Oakville head coach, Duncan Wilde, "so we kept our major focus on the U21s and we won the U21 Provincial Elite division, which was great to see, but even they've all gone away to school now so we are playing our really young ones tonight." "I thought they did exceptionally well," he added, in analysis of the match. "We were a little bit naive to give a penalty away early, because we were just a bit anxious in the tackle and went in too soon, and then we conceded in the first minute of the second half, which is just down to being focused and ready. Just inexperience really." "The rest of the game, I thought we bossed it pretty well. We must have created multiple chances as we usually do, but couldn't score once more. But again, another U17 boy came in and scored for us tonight so that's all good for the future." Pro Stars end the season in eighth position in the west division table, with 15 points from 22 matches, while Oakville finish the season in fifth position in the west division, with 28 points from 22 matches. "It has been a long season for us, and difficult, and we need to do some work over the winter and we will," concluded Wilde. "We'll be back strong and ready for next season, and we're looking forward to that."
