Sigma Keeps Lead At Top Of West With 4-0 Defeat Of Pro Stars 09/18/2016, 2:45pm EDT By Kacian Whyte Sigma FC inches closer to securing the top of the table for the west division with a 4-0 victory over Pro Stars FC on Saturday September 17. Despite playing a very cohesive first half, Pro Star FC gave up a goal, which allowed Sigma FC to move comfortably into the second half with a one goal lead. Pro Stars' Erick Olazabal and Mann Slewa both created a number of chances in front of the net in the early going, but were unable to put any shots on target. The duo led the charge for the first 20 minutes, keeping the hosts locked in their own half. "We weren't pressing as high and as hard as we should have and Sigma took advantage of that," said Pro Stars' Johnathan Albanse. The opposition continued to be dominated by home side in the second half, as Sigma captain Manvir Brar led his men down the center, resulting in goals by Jordan Kalonji (64'), Stoddart (65') and Carver Grenon (80'), creating a gap that would prove impossible for Pro Stars to bridge. The dismissal of Marco Polancec-Marin in the 67' as a result of receiving two cautions did not aid in Pro Stars' quest for a goal. "During the second half I believe Sigma moved the ball a lot better than we did, we were sloppy, no movement, no communication, and we got the red card and then struggled from that point," said Slewa after the game. When asked what the team could have done better Mann Slewa stated "we should of pressed them high at all times, we gave them too much room to move in the back, which gave them the chance to cross the ball diagonally like they wanted and unfortunately we got punished." With one more league game left, Sigma head coach Bobby Smyrniotis and the boys shift their focus to their final match on October 2 against FC London at the Marconi Club Of London, where it looks like the winners of the west division will be determined. "Today was a game we knew we had to win to give ourselves a chance at staying at the top and on track with London and putting ourselves at the forefront of everything," said Smyrniotis.
