Masters' Rayne Hits Clippers For Four In 7-3 Win 08/29/2016, 4:15pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff Masters FA Saints recorded their second win of the season during matchweek 18, busting open their goalscoring charts with a 7-3 result over visitors Kingston Clippers after a whopping four goals from Tyrell Rayne (5', 37', 48' 72'), a brace from Allando Matheson (55', 70') and a single from Jaleni Grant (8'). "I think what we are seeing right now is the results of the cohesion that has come together through the season, but if we were professional club we would have been able to produce this from the beginning," said Masters' technical director, Junior Groves. "What we have been seeing over the past few weeks is even when we have lost a game, still we have played very well because the cohesion was coming. We just put it together tonight." Kingston's Tommy Hong (18'), Joel Zelt (56') and Grant Cole (64') posted goals for Clippers, but the away side could not pull themselves back from a four goal deficit within the first hour. "I think we were caught out initially in the first five or ten minutes with the speed on the flank," said Kingston coach, Bob Minor. "I can't remember which player it was that was causing us the trouble, but he was very fast and it was all game long as well. So we were exposed down our right side early with that speed and it was a lovely finish on that first goal, really nice finish." "It was quite difficult to come back at that point but I thought we did well to pull a goal back in the first half and we were getting opportunities on the flanks," he added. "We thought there was more space through the middle that we weren't exploiting properly, and we tried to do that in the second half but it didn't really work." "In the second half we were chasing the game so we ended up with too many players forward and it became a case of being a bit easier for the opposition to get at us through the middle and take their chances." Both Groves and Minor were primarily focused on the big picture positives of the result, with end of season upcoming and both clubs out of contention for a playoff berth. "I think now the group understands what we are trying to achieve and so it would be easier to achieve it throughout the winter and moving into next season," said Groves. "For new players that come in, it will be easier to pass on that understanding." "We didn't stop battling but we had a lot of young players on the field, and that is what we are focused on as a club," said Minor. "We are trying to give them experience at this level." "I thought they did okay, and it was a 16 year old that scored our third goal there so I'm delighted for him," he added. "The guy we brought on as right back, he did nothing wrong, so there are some positives there." "We just have to keep working hard in the next few weeks and hopefully things will turn around. I'm looking for good performances, and I'm sure it will come, but it's going to take hard work over the next few weeks."
