Sanjaxx Give Up Lead To Nitros In 3-1 Result 08/15/2016, 5:45pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff Sanjaxx Lions dropped a first half lead over North Toronto as the Nitros stormed back in the second to win 3-1 after goals from Jayden Doyle (62'), Killian Elkinson (90 + 3') and Faisal Al-Hamden (50'). Hilliard Serrao (23') had the Lions up within a half hour, but then the tides turned in the next 45 minutes as Sanjaxx lost keeper Matt Zaikos to a dismissal, and the Nitros built off the ensuing penalty. "I think the key to the second half – I mean we were winning one nil – was we felt comfortable with that," said Sanjaxx head coach, Peter Mellon. "In the second half we came out and we adopted the same game plan and a couple of key incidents just determined the way outcome happened. Having a goalkeeper sent off and giving away a silly cross, which is a schoolboy error and it lead to them getting the penalty and coming back. There’s nothing we could've done about that." North Toronto had a new look on the day, and took some time working out the kinks in the fresh look. "We had a lot of players and call-ups which made it a bit disjointed," said North Toronto assistant coach, Gary Fleming. "But you know we sorted it out in the second half." "I felt like we were better in the first half and created a lot of chances and we just didn’t have one player who could put the ball in the back of the net. But then we gave up, what I thought was a weak goal, and then we came out in the second half and took all of our chances." Sanjaxx's Mellon was particularly frustrated at his team's defensive errors after working extensively on this phase of play in training. "We work on a lot of different things in training and staying compact is one of them," said Mellon. "My philosophy is if you can keep a tight line in the back and be disciplined, which they were in the first half, then it helps and we can only look at the end result at the end of the day." "We are now 3-1 down and we were 1-nil up and I think we lost that discipline in the second half and it lead to three goals basically." After 15 matches, North Toronto is in fourth position in the east division with 27 points. Sanjaxx is seventh in the west division with nine points from 13 matches.
