Last Minute Heroics From Oakville Snatch A 3-3 Draw With Aurora 08/15/2016, 4:30pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff Oakville Blue Devils stormed back from a 3-1 deficit to draw Aurora United FC 3-3 at Sheridan College, Oakville on Sunday. "I think we got a little too comfortable and complacency set in and we were unlucky to concede two goals in the final minutes of the game today," said Aurora head coach, Jimmy Brennan. "I thought the boys played ever so well. We played good football but at the end of the day it is about finishing teams off." Aurora's Simon Adjei (41', 58', 83') put away a hat-trick to give Aurora a bright start, but Oakville made adjustments and found joy from Blake Jones (69'), Macca Wilde (90 + 1') and Filipe Vilela (90 + 3') finishes. "The overall game performance for us, from my perspective, was disappointing after how well we battled and fought for a point last week against Woodbridge," said Oakville head coach, Duncan Wilde. "We came out today and put out a poor performance. It was pretty much the same team named with one change due to injury," he continued. "We're still depleted overall, but only one change from the team the week before, and I expected us to kick on but we didn't. We had two excellent chances in the first half but missed them, which has been the story of our season. Meanwhile we gave up a goal to the only shot they took in the first half." "We had a third system of play change on the day and we played very well for the final fifteen minutes but I still can't figure out why we can't play that way for ninety minutes," he concluded. Both teams moved into the latter season with some new personnel, bringing through promising youth prospects. "We're going to have a lot of young guys from our club coming through, they've already been up training with us and we're starting to give them a taste of what League1 is all about," said Brennan. "They've been doing a great job those ones that have been coming up." "We've not got the core of our team," said Wilde. "We've had the same core week in and week out, but the core of our team is not here." "Captain Taylor McNamara is not here, our keeper Karman has been away on trials in Europe and only returned last night, Anthony Novak remains injured, Al James remains injured, and Chris Mitchell remains injured - that's five of my starting eleven that are not here. I've had a consistent core, but it is not my core choice team." "In turn, where we get our support - our U21 team - has been depleted to the man to university teams, so we are now using fringe players from both the U21 and the Blue Devils groups." "We did give three more League1 debuts today, and that is what t is all about, and we took a point. That is what this season is about this year, we take a point and be as respectable as we can at the end of the day."
