Late Jones Penalty Gets Oakville Draw With Woodbridge Strikers 08/08/2016, 6:00pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff Woodbridge Strikers and Oakville Blue Devils each took a share of the points on Sunday as first Strikers' Richard Parker (80') put the home side ahead at Vaughan Grove, Woodbridge, before Oakville's Blake Jones (90 + 6') levelled terms with a last minute penalty equalizer. "I thought we thoroughly deserved to get something out of the game," said Oakville head coach, Duncan Wilde. "It is a very difficult place to come to because they are very competitive and they've got good pace, and they can always hit you on the break like they did to score today." Woodbridge is battling for first position in the east division with Vaughan Azzurri, with Strikers only one point behind their division rivals, but with Vaughan carrying a game in hand. "Well we just gave three points away, it's as simple as that," said Peter Pinizzotto, head coach of Woodbridge Strikers. "We couldn't deal with the pressure at the end, and we just fell apart." "Overall we are missing a lot of players right now, a lot of injuries, suspensions, guys went away so today we had to make a lot of changes in our lineup." "I still thought we played well enough to get the three points but it's unfortunate that at the end we broke down. We made some mental mistakes that ended up costing us three points." Defending League1 Ontario champions Oakville have struggled to get consistency, and occupy sixth position in the west division. "That's probably our best overall ninety minute overall performance all season," said Oakville head coach, Duncan Wilde. "It's just too bad we couldn't turn it into all three points, but we're happy at the end." "There were a couple close calls at the end of the game, and we got one of them to be able to tie the game, which is good, but I'm most pleased that we brought in a number of U21s tonight." "We've been depleted for a while and tonight was probably the most - I had twelve from our junior or younger team program in the squad tonight. Two or three of them got on the field and did a great job. We have a very strong youth development program and that's going to be beneficial to us and vital going forward." "Hopefully by next Sunday we can get some of our regular players back and we can kick on a little bit but we keep going hit and miss. This is a good one for us but now we'll concentrate on next Sunday, try and get three points and move on."
