Vaughan Azzurri and Sanjaxx Lions battled in a match that remained relatively
even for the first hour, before blowing apart at the seams following
a dismissal to Vaughan's Joseph Di Chiara and Sanjaxx's Yan Mone.

Di Chiara (12') had given the home side an early leg up on the visiting
Lions, but it would take until his dismissal before the Azzurri really
began to move into high gear.

"It was 1-0 at half and it could have been 1-1 or even 2-1 by then,"
said Vaughan head coach, Carmine Isacco. "I think we need to rely on our
ability rather than other team's inabilities."

"We need to have a professional attitude about things and we didn't,
realistically, until they went down a man. I think after going down
a man they began to do the little things right. It's inexcusable but
we need to have a much better attitude about things."

Austin McGlashin (64') and Jarek Whiteman (85') stepped up to get goals
in the final 30 minutes, before second-half sub Stephen Piolits (89', 90')
hammered in a brace within two minutes. Vaughan's Liam McQueenie kept
the clean sheet.

"It's just very disappointing and disheartening to be in the game
and then just to drop everything, to see the effort drop off, to see
the commitment drop off," said Sanjaxx head coach, Peter Mellon.

"We just stopped competing, which is very disappointing,
very frustrating."

With a relatively young squad on the pitch for Sanjaxx compared
to Vaughan, Mellon focused on the important element of game management.

"It's a learning curve for these young players, but I don't look
at their age, I look at their ability," he said. "If they are good
enough to play at this level, then they can play."

"That doesn't mean to say though that they can't be in the game
for ninety minutes, or that they can just drop the heads, that's
not what it's all about. We've got to keep fighting and we've got
to learn that. It's just one of those things that we are learning.

"At times, it's becoming unbearable though," he concluded.
"The ball just won't go in for us, so it's very frustrating."
