Toronto FC Academy Takes Third Consecutive Win After Rout Of Masters 07/11/2016, 11:15am EDT By League1 Ontario staff Toronto FC Academy ran riot over Masters FA Saints in matchweek eleven action, disposing of the visitors to the Kia Training Grounds with a final score of 9-0. "There have been a lot of games where we've tied opponents, lost games in 70th minute, and we've started off slow at times, and haven't been putting teams on the back foot," said Toronto FC Academy head coach, Stuart Neely. "I think today was an opportunity for us to exert ourselves and get at the opposition as quickly as we could." Ethan Beckford (11', 18', 58', 70') powered home four on the day, while Glenn Muenkat (25'), Dante Campbell (32'), Kota Sakurai (40'), Afram Gorgees (52') and Mirza Custovic (74') added singles to complete the scoring within 75 minutes. The clean sheet was earned by Brogan Engbers. "I was happy for Ethan Beckford, who had the opportunity to score a few goals today," said Neely. "He's always just off the mark and today he got the opportunity to bang in a few goals. His confidence is growing and he's always in the areas to score those goals, which is important. He hasn't scored a lot of goals in the last few games, and it's important for strikers to keep going, keep doing the right work and keep positive about what they do." "He's a tough footballer and when he gets into the mix of things he gets very involved," he added. "We'd like to see him on the scoresheet every game, probably not in bunches like today but one a match is what we'd like to see." Neely was proud of the accomplishment by his team, but saw some room for improvement in the style and manner of certain aspects of the performance. "The second half was a lot more cohesive than the first half which I felt featured more individual work and combinations that didn't involve much of the team," commented Neely. "Not all goals need to be pretty but at the same time we still need to make sure that we are playing our brand of football." "Tempo and speed of play, the ability to break down a compact midfield, and the ability to break a compact block defensively - those are the things we have trouble with," he concluded. "We want to learn how to play into tight spaces and protect it with a high tempo. When we do that I think it gives us the best opportunity to get a good performance and result at the end of the day." Toronto FC Academy is currently in sixth position in the west division on 15 points, and plays away to Toronto Skillz on July 18 (8 p.m.) at Birchmount Stadium, Toronto. Masters is currently in seventh position in the east division on four points, and plays Windsor Stars on July 16 (5 p.m.) at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
