Sun June 26, 2016 League 1 Ontario--Oakville Blue Devils vs North Toronto Nitros (from League 1 Ontario website)
North Toronto Nitros Take Sting Out Of Devils With 4-2 Final 06/27/2016, 5:15pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff Killian Elkinson (23') and Russell Rodrigues (37') got North Toronto off to a positive start away to Oakville Blue Devils on Sunday, and despite a late rally by the Blue Devils Macca Wilde (72', 79') - the Nitros ran out winners after a 4-2 final. An organized and dynamic North Toronto Nitros side sat in waiting on Oakville Blue Devils, conceding a majority of possession but finding space to launch quick attacks when necessary. "We had a particular organization in place, as we know approximately how Oakville plays and we tried to set up a team to fit that plan," said North Toronto head coach, Hermann Kingue. "We were very successful, because we got a couple early chances and capitalized on them - that's it." Oakville showed good ability to dominate the ball, and created several promising offensive moves, but could not solve a North Toronto defence. With two more late strikes by David Colelli (73') and Niba MacDonald (85') respectively, North Toronto had the points wrapped up. "Anything that could go wrong, went wrong," said Oakville head coach, Duncan Wilde. "We didn't have a good first half, we didn't start well, and they played with good energy first half and we struggled to match that." "Overall I thought we dominated possession through the entire game and created more than enough chances to win it. Today was probably our poorest defensive performance because we played three in the back and we didn't handle that very well." "We got back within one goal twice, but again we just score enough goals from the chances we created. It's as simple as that." Oakville next plays Windsor Stars on July 3 (3 p.m.) at Sheridan College, Oakville. Windsor is currently five points ahead of Oakville in the west division, occupying third position. North Toronto faces Durham United FA on June 30 (9 p.m.) at Downsview 2, Toronto in the second round of the L1 Cup.
