Vaughan Drops To Third In East After 1-1 Draw With North Miss 06/26/2016, 2:30pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff North Mississauga Panthers and Vaughan Azzurri had to settle on a share of the points after drawing 1-1 at Hershey Centre, Mississauga on Saturday. North Mississauga's Jordan Montoya (6') opened the scoring inside ten minutes, before Vaughan's Jarek Whiteman (23') cancelled it out with his equalizer just before the half-hour. In a tight and physical second half, Vaughan's Matthew Stinson was dismissed (52') after receiving his second caution in the match. North Mississauga could not find a way to penetrate the Vaughan defence though, and in post-match head coach Rick Titus was complimentary of the Azzurri's defensive posture and resolve. "I'll tell you what the opposition did," he said. "And this is why they are in first place. They slowed the game down. They got behind the ball. And they forced us to play wide and close areas very quickly. It was a good defensive effort by them, very intelligent, and we couldn't crack the code so to speak." "There were a couple of really clear chances we could've finished and we didn't really put the game away," he added. "But, you know, sometimes you can get lulled into a little bit of a sleep. And when those opportunities do happen, you have to be clear enough in your head, mature enough and professional enough to finish it." Vaughan Azzurri finished the day in third place in the east division, one point behind Woodbridge Strikers. Vaughan will play west division first place side Sigma FC on July 3 (2 p.m.) at McNaughton Turf, Vaughan. North Mississauga Panthers are in fifth place in the west division and will play Toronto Skillz on June 29 (7 p.m.) at Hershey Centre, Mississauga.
