It was an exciting back-and-forth battle between Aurora and Vaughan in the
second round of the men's L1 Cup, but ultimately it was Vaughan to win
the match 3-2 after a late Joseph Di Chiarra (68') strike.

Vaughan forward Mario Kovacevic (8', 12') started the match brightly for
the visitors, scoring a brace inside the first twenty minutes.

But Aurora were not going to be beaten easily, and Christopher Jacovou (28')
and Simon Adjei (39') tacked on goals each to level the scoreline
heading into the break.

"It's just the professional attitude about things that is missing
for us," said Vaughan head coach, Carmine Isacco. "At two nil, whether
it's closing in the midfield or saving a shot from forty yards, we're
just not good at being tuned-in and having a ninety, ninety-five
minutes, whatever it takes, performance."

"It's been the same thing all season - we get complacent, we do some
good things, but there's not that competitive intensity."

The second half was well poised to be an entertaining finale, but
everything changed mid-way through when Aurora's Zakariae Mahrady (62')
was dismissed. Vaughan did not take long to capitalize, with
Di Chiarra (68') grabbing the winner shortly thereafter.

"The red card kind of killed us," said Aurora head coach,
Jimmy Brennan. "We are our own worst enemy at the moment. We're making
silly mental errors that are letting us down a little bit."

"I thought was a good game, and an enjoyable game. We went down
two nil, fought back to two two, and I thought we were in it.
We had a good spell going forward and obviously the red card
changes the whole game."

"Carmine has a good team and they capitalize on their chances.
Our GK just turned seventeen and I think he has bags of potential.
We want to bring kids through our system now, and we had another
one that played through the middle today that has good potential.
I think there is a big change in the way we are playing,
and I think we're coming along well now."
