Woodbridge Defence Wins The Day With Dereyah Tally Over North Toronto 06/06/2016, 11:45am EDT By League1 Ontario staff Woodbridge Strikers continued their domination of the east division after a 1-0 away win over North Toronto Nitros at Varsity Stadium. Captain Andrew Derayeh (16') got the only goal of the day on a strike from 20 yards that surprised the North Toronto keeper and snuck in at his near post. Woodbridge's keeper Matt George added his third clean sheet in league play, and ensured an energetic and well-organized Nitros could not find a way through to net. "That's my job," he said. "Go out to be the goalie and help the guys out. But they bailed me out enough this year so I might as well return the favour." "The defence did amazing," he added. "For two years now we have been in the best goals against and hopefully that doesn't change anytime soon." "Defence keeps us in games and it is what it is." Although Woodbridge head coach Peter Pinizzotto was happy to get three points, he was not at all happy with the performance of his team. "We're lucky that Matt [George] our goalie was in the game today, he saved the result," said Pinizzotto. "I thought the back four did well, but then going into midfield and going forward we struggled." "We didn't create many chances, so basically Toronto dictated the game and we were just hanging there." North Toronto has shown quality and youth, attacking verve, pace in possession and the ability to work hard as a unit to keep clean sheets. However, assistant coach Ilya Orlov pointed to one key element his team need to address if they want to win the big matches. "We had the majority of the ball, but we just need to create more in the attacking half, and especially near the goal," he said. "We obviously had more possession. We out played them in the second half, but we need to create more goal scoring opportunities." "We're going to keep the same way" he added. "Probably the only phase of the game we need to improve is the final third." "So we're going to be work on that and creating chances and finishing. But besides that, we're not going to change much defending." Nitros are back at home in Varsity Stadium for matchweek seven, facing Kingston Clippers on June 12 (3 p.m.). North Toronto finishes matchweek six in fifth position, only one point behind Durham United and two points behind Kingston Clippers. Woodbridge remains in first place on 16 points in the east division, and will look to extend their unbeaten streak to seven matches when they host Durham United FA on June 12 (7 p.m.).
