Tues May 31, 2016 League 1 Ontario L1O Cup 1st Round--North Mississauga Panthers vs North Toronto Nitros (from League 1 Ontario website)
North Toronto Edges North Mississauga 2-1 In First Round L1 Cup 06/02/2016, 4:00pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff Despite a late consolation marker from Austin Bryan (85'), two goals for North Toronto Nitros' Anthony Sousa (44', 67') proved insurmountable for North Mississauga SC as they went out of the 2016 L1 Cup. North Mississauga had started the stronger of the two sides, demonstrating pace through the flanks, and having one good chance to Montoya go begging inside the first twenty minutes. However, North Miss were left to play with ten men after the early dismissal of Michael Krzemenski (25') for violent misconduct, but maintained a strong presence in the match throughout. "I tell you what, the referee made a good call on that card because our player reacted to something in a way that you cannot do in the game, but even with that I thought we played some good football, we got a goal back, and I think we could have got one or two more," said North Miss head coach, Rick Titus. "I was very happy with the fact the boys played a good game tonight. I think this is a good team, playing some good football, and of course there are going to be some hiccups on the way but I'm really proud of this team. I have a lot of faith in these guys. They worked very hard to get back in the game." Including this L1 Cup win, North Toronto have won four of their last four matches, conceding only two goals and scoring fourteen. Head coach Hermann Kingue pointed to the chemistry and determination of the group as the main reasons for their strong start. "When we started the league I had a conversation with the boys," he said. "It's a contract, I mean I know what to expect from them and they know what to expect from me. I expect them to be serious and execute the plan, and that's what they've been doing thus far." Momentum in this Cup fixture began to shift late in the proceedings, as North Miss substitute Austin Bryan injected some pace and attacking menace to the visitors. "I thought Austin Bryan made a big difference when he came in, he's got good speed and anticipation and obviously a very good shot," said Titus. "He's actually a bit of a Swiss Army knife, you know, I can put him up top, right back, centre back, he can play all over. He does well at every position and I was very happy with his performance. He changed the game." Kingue was happy with his team's dominance of the match, but had some concerns about the North Toronto's loss of energy late in the contest. "Coming into the game we were trying to keep our organization," he said. "We've been strong in the back and wanted to be efficient in midfield and up front. Everything started well and we scored the first goal, which gave us an advantage. I'm not sure why but we gave up some momentum later in the contest." North Toronto move on to play Woodbridge Strikers in the second round of the L1 Cup at a location and date TBD.
