Master's FA Saints grabbed their first win of the season after taking
down hosts Toronto Skillz 4-1.

In a much more even match than the final scoreline indicated,
Toronto Skillz simply couldn't finish a variety of fantastic chances
that were presented to them, while Masters were resolute in their
focus on finishing the opportunities they created.

"We came today with a purpose, which was to get the first of a number
of wins that we see available to us in the schedule," said Masters'
technical director, Junior Groves.

"It's a job well done today. We made sure we didn't wait to see
something get done, we made sure to go out there and get
it done today. The players went out there with that purpose today
and you could see it in the way they executed."

Masters were the first to draw blood after unlocking the left sided
flank of Toronto Skillz. The ensuing centred ball found
Tyrell Rayne (32') with perfect timing on the run to finish right
from right in front of the keeper.

Rayne (53') would be the hero again just after the break, once more
timing his run in behind the defence to get on a simple through ball
from his left-back, and finishing with the toe punt over the
onrushing GK.

"In the first half we talked about some of the places that Masters
was getting joy in the game, especially the flanks, and we didn't
do a good enough job of first getting out to the flanks but after
that we didn't do a good job of stopping them out there either,"
said Toronto Skillz head coach, Leslie "Tiger" Fitzpatrick.
"This hurt us on the first two goals."

Toronto Skillz looked like they had the bit between their teeth
as the half wore on, and wide forward Mirsadeghi showed their
intentions after stepping inside and drilling a 25-yard shot off
the post. Stunned, Masters could not clear their lines and when
Toronto Skillz immediately sent the ball back in Lukas Rysto (63')
was there to finish with a grasscutter inside the far post.

But Masters were determined to keep the points, and a simple
direct ball from a free kick led to Aaron Massy (82') outjumping
his marker in the box and sending the glancing header down into
the turf and up into the back corner of the net.

Toronto Skillz still had great chances - Wadohi Fadul had an open
net for his taking but slammed the shot off the post and hammered
the rebound over the bar - but could not take them.

"I thought we were getting into the game at the start of the
second half and then we gave up a soft goal on a counter-attack
and it put us behind the eight ball," said Fitzpatrick.

"We made some changes to try and push us forwards to get our
first goal. We had another two goals conceded on set pieces and
that has been the story of the season. We are giving up a lot
of these goals and talking about what we need to do to improve."

Masters completely killed the contest shortly thereafter,
Jelani Grant (89') ending his day by bending a great left-footed
free kick around the wall and into the bottom corner.

"[Jelani] is surely quite the player, and that is what we know
we have," said Groves. "We have that type of quality on the field.
He is very effective in midfield for us, and is one of the players
that can create at a high level."

"He has played at a high level in Thailand, and has come back
to hone his craft skills before trying to proceed in Europe.
We think he is very valuable to us here, and could be very valuable
to the Canadian soccer program."

Toronto Skillz head to Kingston in matchweek six to take on Clippers
on June 4 (3 p.m.) at Queen's University, Tindall Field.

Masters will doubtlessly have designs on more points, returning home
to L'Amoreaux on June 4 (9 p.m.), taking on Aurora United FC.
