Kingston Men Keep Clean Sheet And Score Three To Sink Aurora United 05/26/2016, 6:45pm EDT By League1 Ontario staff Kingston Clippers added another three points to their early season home record, which features a win over Masters and a draw with Durham, after beating Aurora United FC 3-0. "It's exactly the same as I said after the women's game," said Kingston technical director, Chris Eveleigh. "As a club, some of our selections may seem a bit strange to some people, but what we've learned in our experience from previous years is that sometimes chemistry is more important in some ways than quality." "We always say that hard work beats talent every time. If we can keep the hard work going from everyone, we'll be fine this season." Both sides went close with chances in the very early going, but Kingston opened up the scoring via the foot of Jeremy Arnold (16'). Inexplicably, the goal seemed to take the wind from Aurora's sails. "I thought we started off exactly how we wanted to, up until the first twenty minutes or that first goal, I think we were just as good if not better," said Aurora coach, Dave DiPlacido. "We fed it forward well, we were well organized and we were keeping possession of the ball. But as soon as we conceded, a few of the boys dropped and we started playing a bit differently." Kingston's Mackenzie Roach began to press the point for the home side, driving into the opposition's box and eventually forcing a foul. Oliver Coren (23') stepped up to dispatch the penalty, sending Aurora keeper Mahrady the wrong way. However, Mahrady would finish the half strongly for Aurora, stopping consecutive efforts from Martin, Van Belleghem, Arnold, and making two fantastic reflex saves off a scramble in the box. Nevertheless, Aurora would go into the dressing-rooms 2-nil down. Van Belleghem (50') would not be kept out for long, and returned after the break with a goal to clinch the result, keeping his calm while in alone, tucking the ball under Mahrady. Both sides began to wilt in the late spring heat, and Kingston ran out the clock on the final half with some dominant possession play. "It's a new team and we've got a lot of young players, so we've got some things to work on for sure," concluded Di Placido.
