Durham Men Stay Undefeated In East Division After 4-1 Win Over TSkillz

Durham United FA maintained their undefeated run to start the 2016 season,
opening up home ground of Kinsmen Park with a 4-1 win over Toronto Skillz.

Christian Moncrieffe (27') was most influential on the day for the hosts,
dispatching the first goal of the match via penalty, before setting
up Lamanna for Durham's second, and earning the penalty finished
by Joshua Parades to get the fourth.

Toronto Skillz's Mahmoud Mirsadeghi (32') got his second in as many
matches, finishing off the rebound of a TSkillz free early in the
game to keep the first half level, but the visitors couldn't find
the necessary ingredients in the second half to contest the result.

"I think we are not able to put together the full ninety minute
performance just now," Toronto Skillz head coach,
Leslie "Tiger" Fitzpatrick.

"We spoke about it before the game and at half. We got to half
in a favourable position playing away as it was 1-1. We could see
what we needed to do, but couldn't execute, and to give away two
soft penalties away from home makes it very hard to come back."

Second half sub Steven Lamanna (52') made an impact shortly after
entering the match, drilling the finish low to the bottom left
after sublime through ball from Moncrieffe.

Edward Lay (67') added a third goal to his season's tally, following
an opening weekend brace, and insurance to the scoreline. Lay's goal
was the product of another well-weighted assist, this time
from Kashiff De Jonge.

Joshua Parades (71') finished off Durham's run of four on the
night after Moncrieffe's presence drew the foul from TSkillz
defenders in the box. Parades slotted his left-footed penalty
low to the keeper's right.

"We made some tactical switches to add a bit of pace on the right
and up top," said Durham head coach, Sanford Carabin. "We wanted
our front three players in behind as much as possible, and
we asked our mids to play a little more direct."

"Once we got our second goal, we settled down a bit and hten
they had to come out and push forward, which made more space
for us. The key personnel change in the second half, bringing
in Lamanna and moving Kashiff up top, really helped."

The result brings Durham to three wins and one draw in their
first four matches, while Toronto Skillz are still looking for
a win despite some excellent performances in their first
four matches.

"We've been in all of these matches until forty-five,
fifty minutes, and I think it's just instilling in the youth
the understanding of how turn these performances into three
points," concluded Fitzpatrick.

"We spoke about how to translate performances into three points
before the game, and we'll keep grinding away at that. We have
a lot of individual talent, maybe a little cohesion missing,
but it is a new and young group and we'll head back to the
drawing board with it."
