2016 University/ College Signings - Men's Division - Part I

In the latter part of a League1 Ontario season, many of the member clubs look to their depth of quality 
in youth and prospects to step up and deliver the late season results.

In many cases, this late-season crop of young players represents the starting point of roster building 
for the following season.

During the League1 Ontario 2015 season, for example, some of these prospects clearly made impressions 
on college and university scouts, as a number of 2016 athletic scholarships have already been offered 
and signed by players. 

An ongoing feature story over the coming weeks as signings develop, this is the League1 Ontario 2016 
University/ College Round-Up - Men's Division - Part I:

Oakville Blue Devils

The 2015 League1 Ontario and Inter-Provincial Cup champions, Oakville Blue Devils have three players 
that made League1 appearances in 2015 that have already accepted offers from post-secondary schools. 

Forward Adam Gould will go to NAIA school Midland University in Nebraska, while Antonio Downey goes 
to NCAA DI school University of Holy Cross in Massachusetts, and Victor Ledesma has signed with 
NCAA DII school Walsh University in Ohio.

Sigma FC

Sigma continues to produce top-drawer products, and has three players that have inked deals with 
post-secondary schools in the past week.

Midfielders Marcel Zajac and Reggie Laryea have agreed to offers from NCAA DI school University 
of Akron - the alma mater of Laryea's brother Richmond Laryea, who was a first round pick by MLS' 
Orlando City FC in the recent 2016 MLS SuperDraft. 

Finally, Sigma goalkeeper Corey Marques has also accepted an offer from NCAA DI Grand Canyon 
University in Arizona. 

All three Sigma players are part of the Canada U20 player pool. 

Windsor Stars

Identified by Canada U20 head coach Rob Gayle at the August 30 identification camp in Vaughan, 
Windsor Stars forward Noah Pio was invited to the November 6 U20 development camp.

Though not technically a new university signing, 18 year-old Pio has since transferred from 
University of Windsor to NCAA D1 school Cleveland State University.
