Encore Question of May 23, 1998.
Played at Frog & Firkin in North York.
Tonight I have a small lead with a good score of 23774 thanks to winning the OnBeat and Triviaoke rounds. I've been trying to hold off KELLY who has 21350 points who was only 27 points behind after she won the JukeBox round. The selection of jazz artists meant I knew I'd be in trouble--I couldn't even tell what instrument each played. Anyway with 50% on the line....
Question:...This jazz legends life came to an end with a fall out of a window in Amsterdam in 1988.
I don't have a clue who that was. It took 20 seconds to write the long question down. It's not any music I listen to. Only two facts I could think of before the question was asked were 'Bird' for Charlie Parker's nickname and Thelonious Monk lived to be 100 [actually I'm even wrong on this as Joel Whitburn's book listed his death as only 62]. This is one of those 'news' stories like me never knowing Eric Clapton had a son until his similar death made the news. Time was running out and with only one answer eliminated [and for the wrong reason] I pressed in '2'.
Correct Answer:...1. Chet Baker
I'm wrong and fall to 11887 points. That was 6363rd in North America and below the 15000 Player's points standard of 15000 so I only earned 1000+ for that game. I dropped to 3rd place as KELLY and MOLSON got it right and risked 50%. The bar was 1205th in North America as I think only two of the 8 players were right.
9:30pm...Wipeout...5705/15000...6th/7...5057th in North America...bar is 739th...either 500 or 1000 Players Plus points as I didn't get here until the 6th question...ESCORT wins.
10:00pm...Playback (see above)
11:00pm...RetroTV...12235/15000...5th/7...813th in NA...bar is 70th in NA (7 perfect games in NA mean this may have been a recycled game, I'd seen some of the questions before)...1000+ points...FERREL wins (this is actually Mike 'MEWLER' from Joe Grinder days).
11:30pm...Countdown...10554/15000...6th/11...1648th in NA...bar is 14th with a 12970 average!...1000+ points...WOTUS wins.
The bar's clique had formed for that last game but I had fun playing with Bill MADDOG this evening.
I still don't have access to my web page so don't know when my reader's will see this.
