Encore Question of August 23rd, 1997.

  1. Miles Davis
  2. Dizzy Gillespie
  3. Wynton Marsalis
  4. Chet Baker
  5. Louis Armstrong

Tonight I have a big lead thanks to having a perfect round at TuneUp and JukeBox and winning the other rounds. I have 20749 and am ready to bet all out until I see the choices and back down to the minimum 10%. If I'm right I can still finish over 22000 and be 1-2 on the reset Hall of Fame board. I still better be right as EXILES can still catch me if he risks 50% of 14800. With only 2075 on the line...

Question:...A life-sized bronze statue of this famous trumpeter stands in Marciac France.

Well I don't know this one. Who would the French like? I probably know Chet Baker the least but he seems that he'd play in smokey clubs in France. Only Wynton I rule out as he seems too young to have statues built for him.

Correct Answer:..3 Wynton Marsalis

Well I'm wrong and tumble to 18674. I still win and beat the other 6 players. Only one of us was right so GUNNER finishes in 2nd at 17393. I earn 2000 Players Plus points. I finish 121st in North America with what I think is a rather poor score but this must have fooled quite a few players. The bar is 995th.

The answer is followed by a sentence that says Wynton hosts the annual jazz concert there every year. So that's why!

The band tonight is 'Skip Tracer' playing rockers from 'four decades of music', the singer announces. They are a quartet of guitar, guitar, bass and drums.

Another one of those weird moments was in the WipeOut game when the question was about the album 'The Joshua Tree' when the song on the PA of taped music just happened to be the new U2 song 'Last Night On Earth'. I said "hey that sounds like them now" to laughter at the bar.

Other games:
9:30pm...Wipeout...10889/15000...1st/7...1000 Players Plus points, 215th in North America, bar is 1172nd.
10:00pm...Playback...(see above).
11:00pm...Nightsiders...9000/15000...1st/7...1000+ points...121st in NA, bar is 532nd.
