Encore Question of May 3rd, 1997.

Answers:

  1. Smashing Pumpkins
  2. Mighty Mighty Bosstones
  3. Squirrel Nut Zippers
  4. Aerosmith
  5. Roxbury Benders

Tonight I have a big lead over the other players while not playing particularly well. I have 17816 against ICEMAN with 11093 and the other ten players even further behind. I expect ICEMAN will risk 50% and can still catch me if I risk 10% and am wrong. There's no point risking more as I can't catch one of my Top 10 scores. This question could be about anything and I'm being distracted so with only 10% on the line.....

Question: "Let's Face It" is the fifth and most recent album for this Boston area band.

Well I don't know this offhand so I try to eliminate the obvious wrongs. Aerosmith are from Boston but that's not their new album [actually if you're reading this years from now it's one month since 'Nine Lives'] and one of the earlier questions was about their cover art controversy. Smashing Pumpkins are from Chicago (or that's what I thought). The Squirrel Nut Zippers I thought might be from the south and were just recently put together. I eliminated Mighty Mighty Bosstones as I thought they were from Detroit and thought they'd been around for decades so I didn't spend much time thinking of them. I can't say I've heard of the Roxbury Benders (there may be no such group) but pressed in '5' anyway. The waitress is making change for my friend Paul on our little stall so that's distracting for elbow room.

Correct Answer: 2. Mighty Mighty Bosstones

Oooh I'm wrong. I started to think Roxbury is in New York because of the Saturday Night Live sketch of the dancing Roxbury guys but there is a Roxbury Massachusetts. Now I remember why I thought of Detroit. It's because I saw them on television singing with two guys from Kiss 'Detroit Rock City'. Only one or two of twelve players got this right. I win with 16034 points good for 4132nd in North America. The bar is 1842nd(?). I get 2000+ points; I needed 11000 minimum for them. Second place went to RED with 8630.

The band for a rather small crowd tonight was 'Skip Tracer'. They were a quartet of drums, bass, guitar and guitar. As their singer said, they cover four decades of songs. He can sound like the original singers too. I had never seen a band cover '1979' by Smashing Pumpkins but was pinned in at the booth playing trivia so couldn't see how they got that guitar sound.
