NTN Encore Question of December 15th, 2012.
Played at The Pheasant & Firkin in North York, Ontario.

Headliner:...WILLIE NELSON over Kenny Rogers and Johnny Cash

Encore Question:...It is depicted on the cover sleeve of Willie Nelson's 2005 album 'Countryman':

Tonight I'm playing alone as my friends were either going to a concert and another was sick. I should call a few days earlier and then can decide not to play.

Here's how my game went and my comments:
Tune Up...ROCKET...4000/5000...4th/5.
.............LITBOX...4000/5000...4th/5...MACE/GMV and VERN win with 4500.
The Line Up...ROCKET...10000/15000...4th/5...VERN wins round and leads with 12500.
...........LITBOX...10000/15000...4th/5...I get 6 right and 4 wrong for a bad round with bad guesses.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...13750/25000...4th/5...my two win round.
............LITBOX...13750/25000...4th/5...VERN has the lead with 16K.
I figure I must have taken five -250s this round.
Opening Act...ROCKET...19250/35000...1st/5.
...........LITBOX...19250/35000...1st/5...my two boards win the round.
The Pound key round. I figured I must have gone 6 right for 1000, 0 for +250, 2 for -250, and 2 I didn't answer.
I changed off a 1000 answer on the second pass and took -250.

Headliner...ROCKET...23250/56250...1st/5.
............LITBOX...23250/56250...1st/5...I get 5 right and 5 wrong.

I like Willie Nelson but I don't own any of his songs. Although I knew the least about him when compared to the other possible Headliners I enjoyed the variety that they didn't reuse the Johnny Cash Headliner questions from a few years ago again.

Q1 easy enough. Q2 I haven't heard the song so went with 'cowboy'. Q3 got this one right as it was such a huge crossover hit. Q4 I haven't heard this song ever and went with 'from you'. Q5 hadn't heard this song before and went with 'lovin' you'. Q6 got this one because I've heard the Arlo Guthrie version. Q7 I think this question has been asked before in other games over the years. Q8 a read through a list of albums would have helped because I got this wrong by going with 'unknown' which is more like an REM lyric which is actually 'The Great Beyond'. Q9 this was partly a guess but I think I've read that he was in this movie. Q10 I picked 'Purple Sage Nevada' as it sounded like where a cowboy might be from but again, like many questions in the round, it would have been better if I'd ever heard the song.

So that's questions Q2, Q4, Q5, Q8, and Q10 wrong. I made one set of +250 bonus points. That must be my worst Headliner round ever. I could have spent three hours reading about him and maybe got two more right. Instead I spent my valuable time updating my website on the soccer side of things. I decide for the first time in maybe 20 years of playing to wager nothing on the Encore question. The questions over time is the Encores are usually the hardest. I know I won't be staying here to play any more games tonight.

I don't know this. The body of work done by all the Headliner choices is immense and as soon as I saw that Kenny Rogers had recorded eight Christmas albums I decided not to make any notes on any of them. [Willie Nelson has recorded 60 studio albums said Wikipedia and that alone would have taken an hour to write down or look at the pictures of the covers. Live and compilation and collaboration albums would probably doubled that]. Hmmm I've read a few years ago that Nelson recorded a few songs with Snoop Dogg and I saw Nelson on Letterman a few weeks ago talking about his autobiography 'Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die'. I'll go with '4'. I wonder if he had an album with a belt buckle? It doesn't matter and I don't change as I'm not risking anything but I like to be right.

Correct Answer:....4. marijuana leaf

[NTN Extra Fact:...He recorded two Jimmy Cliff songs on the reggae-flavored CD.]

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore Final Rank ntn.com rank
ROCKET 23250 4 23250 242 350
LITBOX 23250 4 23250 242 350
VERN 20920 4 23012 245 357
GMV 20000 5 18000 363 501
MACE 19000 5 19000 333 458
(ntn.com listed 2043 Players Plus players with 1895 having a positive score in the Playback East district).

I'm right although my scores doesn't change and win the game with 23250. As I expected the other players protected their 3000+ points and wagered a minimal amount or nothing at all to stay above the 18000 point standard. I hadn't considered I would be caught with them risking 10% but VERN got close.
[ntn.com lists the bar as 31st out of 906 in the Playback East district with a 21302 average].

Other games:
7:00pm...The Season...ROCKET...6600 points...3rd/4...1500+ points...MACE wins.
.....LITBOX...5328 points...4th/4...1500+ points.
I got here in time for the 25th question. Another game of waiting for the third clue and getting less than 100 points.
I split my answer on the final question and got one board right but I had risked '0' so it didn't matter. I could have won if MACE had have got it wrong.
8:00pm...(see above)

Now comes the Television game and the SpeedFreaks game before a Countdown game but I decide again this week to go home.

I won't be learning any Triviaoke lyrics while listening to the new Crystal Castles album tonight on the walk to the bus stop. Their album did make #2 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums charts. Raining again!
