NTN Encore Question of November 24th, 2012.
Played at The Pheasant & Firkin in North York, Ontario.

Headliner:...DUETS over Family Bands and Singers/Songwriters

Encore Question:...In the musical 'West Side Story' Tony and Maria sing this duet:

Tonight I'm playing alone as my friends Rob and Sean have gone to the Metric concert at the Air Canada Centre. Hometown band makes big! I'm not sure if the Frog & Firkin is still closed and the latest rumour is they are NOT bringing back NTN in their renovated bar. As I know it's just me playing tonight I get up real close to the somewhat small monitor that's tuned to the game.

Here's how my game went and my comments:
Tune Up...ROCKET...4500/5000..1st/4.
.............LITBOX...4500/5000...1st/4...all four boards are tied.
I have forgotten the name of Katy Perry's movie and guess wrong.
The Line Up...ROCKET...10500/15000...1st/4...we're still tied.
...........LITBOX...10500/15000...1st/4...I get 6 right and 4 wrong. Not good at all. Justin Bieber won some 'worst' something award
from the English NME magazine. He's to perform at the Grey Cup (Canadian football championship) halftime show held tomorrow in Toronto. Only
Canadians are subject to 'worst of' campaigns as this happened to him and Celine Dion and Nickelback.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...13820/25000...2nd/4.
............LITBOX...13860/25000...1st/4. I figure I must have taken four or five -250s this round including the Katy Perry song.
Strange that I can remember the James Darren song but not the lyrics to 'Last Friday Night'.
Opening Act...ROCKET...18570/35000...2nd/4.
...........LITBOX...18610/35000...1st/4...my two boards win.
The Pound key round. I figured I must have gone 5 right for 1000, 1 for +250, 2 for -250, and 2 I didn't answer.
I found out I could change my answer on the second pass even after I'd already changed it once from the first run through. I changed to '1'
the second pass and changed again as the choice came down to '5'. That was the only good thing about this round.

Headliner...ROCKET...29320/56250...2nd/4.
............LITBOX...29360/56250...1st/4...I get 8 right and 2 wrong.

I didn't study this week as the categories were too general. I was looking for a list of family bands on Wikipedia but didn't have time to read them. I didn't notice the twin brothers in Good Charlotte and thought the list incomplete so stopped looking.

Hmm. A Mick Jagger and a John Lennon question in this round. Maybe that was put together from the non-choice of those two from last week as Headliners. They'd used a Frank & Nancy Sinatra question in the Tune Up round which they used in a previous Headliner game when they had 'Duets' three years ago. I didn't realize that until the next day but someone on a message board pointed that out by quoting my own recap made back then.

Q1 not a good start as I didn't realize this song was a duet (well not credited as one but I do remember a woman's voice in the background). I got with Patti Labelle. Q2 I knew this. Q3 Yep I knew this. Q4 OK with this one too. Q5 I know this song anyway but read this last week while going over lists of songs by John Lennon and Mick Jagger. Q6 I almost went with Babyface but knew Peabo Bryson had at least one song in 'Beauty and the Beast'. Q7 Went with Don Henley on this. I immediately thought that Rob would have known this one. Q8 I'm not good with songs on which album questions but I was glad I was sorting my CDs last week to tick them into my book that I never had time for during the soccer season. Q9 I knew this as I'd played 'Loretta Lynne Gold' within the last few months. Q10 I hardly remember the song but their award show kiss links them together.

So I miss out on Q1 and Q7. Q7 was not a single that made the charts.

Now the Encore betting comes up. Well 50% as usual. I'll need this right to get the full P+ points. I can be caught by the other players if I miss this.

I've never seen the movie so I don't know this. The only songs I recognize from that movie here are '2' and '5' and figure a guy wouldn't sing on 'I Feel Pretty' in those macho times. I can rule out 'Wouldn't It Be Lovely' as from 'My Fair Lady'. Would 'Tonight' be a duet? I can hear the song but it is English comedian Alexai Sayle singing it on his television show years ago as a gag about outtakes and bloopers where he flubs one word after a speech and breaks out into that song. OK wait. I think I've heard a woman sing that song too. Since I don't know the other songs I go with '5'.

Correct Answer:....5. Tonight

[NTN Extra Fact:...Songs from 'West Side Story' musical were sung on 'Glee'.]

Lucky I don't know more about that movie as '1' and '3' are also from that show. I've never watched an episode of 'Glee'.

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore Final Rank ntn.com rank
LITBOX 29320 5 44040 54 143
ROCKET 29360 5 43980 54 145
MACE 18250 5 18250 359 598
GMV 18250 5 18250 359 598
(ntn.com listed 1893 Players Plus players with 1758 having a positive score in the Playback East district).

I win as LITBOX with 44040. I earn 3000+ Players Plus points by meeting the standard of 18000. I finish 54th in the Playback East district. I finish 2nd on this bar's Hall of Fame (I was 1st last week).
(ntn.com lists this place as 34th out of 861 bars in the Playback East district with a 24904 average.)

Other games:
7:00pm...The Season...ROCKET...13673...2nd/4...1500+ points.
.....LITBOX...7751...2nd/4...1500+ points.
I got here in time for the 14th question. LITBOX I couldn't sign on until about Q19. I got caught on the last question by MACE who started after me. I wasn't near the 20000 point standard so bet '0' and was wrong as usual. If I didn't need to rely on the bus I could have got here even later.
8:00pm...(see above)

Well enough of this place. Now games that I don't care for like the television game where I don't know the answers as I don't watch American 'new' series and need my friends' help to meet the standard. Not SpeedFreaks neither. Let MACE dominate the Hall of Fame board with his 15000 scores playing alone.

I decide to say goodbye to the other players who were at the bar rather than the restaurant and see it's only one guy playing two boards. I think his name is Steve. He got the Encore question right so I ask him why he didn't bet 50%. "Were you waiting for me to miss it?" I say. "Well I had my points" he said. Yes 18000 so that's why I pulled so far ahead. Sort of like me in the Football game.

Television game? They'd never ask questions about 'Murdoch Mysteries' or 'Republic of Doyle' (Canadian shows). I'd rather see the Grey Cup game tomorrow but I'm going to a soccer banquet so I'll have to tape it. Toronto Argonauts are in it.

This week I wait for a bus to get to the subway and shorten my travel time. I'm finally playing LAX by The Game for the first time but why did only 10 songs out of 19 copy onto my MP3 player? My computer must have cut off.

One year ago exactly I was still in the hospital recovering from heart surgery so despite all the complaining I've done in this recap I'm quite happy and grateful.
