NTN Encore Question of September 22nd, 2012.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York, Ontario.

Headliner:...BLUEGRASS over Rockabilly and Cowpunk

Encore Question:...The bluegrass classic 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown' is on the soundtrack of the movie:

Tonight I'm playing with Ron CHATZ, Tony ICEMAN, and Edward ASTROS. I have to sign on a board as ASTROS to ensure Edward had a board that would score Player's Plus points and help us rank the bar. The agreement was Ron and I would tell the other two what buttons to press. I tipped off Edward how to play poundkey before the Opening Act round started. My other friends had gone up to a concert at Casinorama.

Here's how my game went and my comments:

Tune Up...ROCKET...5000/5000..1st/5...my two boards and CHATZ win round.
.............LITBOX...5000/5000...1st/5.
The Line Up...ROCKET...9000/15000...2nd/5...ICEMAN wins round and has lead with 9500.
...........LITBOX...9000/15000...2nd/5...4 right and 6 wrong. This round has certainly got harder. Ron gets us two and costs us one
or my score would have been even worse. I should have known the album title listed was Blink 182 because it was their 2011 title but
went with No Doubt.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...17230/25000...2nd/5...CHATZ wins round and has lead at 17600.
............LITBOX...17230/25000...2nd/5. I take only one -250s this round if I remember right. Ron got me one a lot sooner than I would
have known.
Opening Act...ROCKET...23480/35000...1st/5.
...........LITBOX...23480/35000...1st/5...my two boards win round.
The Pound key round. I figured I must have gone 7 right for 1000, 0 for +250, 3 for -250, and 0 I didn't answer.
Headliner...ROCKET...28230/56250...3rd/5.
............LITBOX...28230/56250...3rd/5...ASTROS wins round.

Well good start as I'd heard the first three and remember Johnny Cash singing Q3 between playing two harmonicas. I missed Q4, Q5, Q6, Q7, and Q10. going for Sunny Mountain Boys, Possums, can't remember, Martina McBride, and Wabash Cannonball. I felt I should have got Q5 and was thinking about Austin Texas being more of a desert climate but didn't even consider 'lounge lizards' as being a cliche about pick-up artists. Also I had Dolly Parton as the answer and switched to Martina McBride thinking I saw both names on a brief run through the Wikipedia page on Bluegrass music earlier in the day [but it was Dolly Parton and Patty Loveless]. I think they spelled 'Jed' with two D's as an answer. Wabash Cannonball is at least a song title I've heard of.

Now the Encore betting comes up. Well 50% as usual. If I miss this I won't earn the full Player's Plus points but I feel the question will be easy enough.

Answers:

  1. The Getaway
  2. Scarface
  3. Bonnie & Clyde
  4. The Big Sleep
  5. Badlands

Oh Oh. Well I don't see 'O Brother Where Art Thou' as the only movie besides 'The Hunger Games' with that sort of music earlier in the week. A quick read of Wikipedia earlier today linked me with the movie Bonnie & Clyde and I was distracted into reading about Warren Beattie getting the studio to guarantee him 40% of the gross because they didn't think the movie would make any money and he became rich and could make any movie he wanted after that. Ron was offering that as an answer and I made sure I said it too. I said as reasoning that the other movies didn't have "that kind of music" although I haven't seen any of them.

Correct Answer:....3. Bonnie & Clyde

[NTN Extra Fact:...The song in the movie was written by legendary banjo player Earl Scruggs (1924-2012).]

I'm right and stay in 3rd place with my two boards at 42345. I earn 3000+ points for meeting the standard of 18000. I finish 38th in the Playback
East district. The bar is 8th in the Playback East region. Ron wins with 43650 and is 8th on this bar's Hall of Fame.
(ntn.com listed the bar finishing 8th out of 906 bars with a 42315 average.)

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore Final Rank ntn.com rank

(ntn.com listed 2017 Players Plus players with 1859 having a positive score in the Playback East district).

Well first Encore answer I knew in more than a month. I would have got last week's David Bowie one though if I'd stopped by to play. The rest of the Headliner was not good at all but then everyone had the same questions and the scores weren't that good. I doubt anyone ran 10 for 10.

Other games:
7:00pm...NFL The Season...ROCKET...1418/80000?...5th/5.
...............LITBOX...1417/80000?...4th/5.
I got here in time for the 33rd question. I was able to change my team names on ROCKET to Buffalo (it must have defaulted to Arizona --alphabetically first choice) the first time I played this game. I don't know footall so I wasn't in a hurry to get here.
8:00pm...Playback...(see above)
I leave early and get home in plenty of time for the MLS soccer game on television.
