Headliner:...SOUL TRAIN over American Bandstand and American Idol

Encore Question:...Don Cornelius the host of 'Soul Train' for more than 20 years sold its media rights to:

Tonight I'm playing with my two boards with Rob COSMO/PLBAAB and Sean METLCA. Phil wasn't here. Too bad as I received a package of pasta when I left the soccer game tonight and would have given it to him--one of his nicknames is 'Pasta Pusher'.

Here's how my game went and my comments:

Tune Up...ROCKET...4500/5000..1st/5.
.............LITBOX...4500/5000...1st/5...I think we all tied this round. I'm wrong again on 'Alexander's Ragtime Band' being

...........LITBOX...14500/15000...1st/5...I sweep all ten questions this week and my friends go 9 and 1 because I wasn't sure
of the new song by B.O.B.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...18600/25000...1st/5. Rob's PLBAAB board wins the round.
............LITBOX...18600/25000...1st/5. I take four -250s this round--everything from Fall Out Boy to Sam & Dave. Sean got us one

...........LITBOX...25600/35000...1st/5.
The Pound key round. I figured I must have gone 7 right for 1000, 1 for +250, 1 for -250, and 1 I didn't answer. My boards win round.

Well I didn't have time to study any of the categories. I had read my Billboard magazines earlier this year on obituaries of Don Cornelius and Dick Clark (American Bandstand) and would try to recall facts as the questions went along. Q1 I was looking for Philadelpha because of the song 'TSOP--The Sound of Philadelphia' but it wasn't a choice (yeah Dick Clark's start was in that city. So best choice was Chicago and I called Rob off Detroit as they'd be rivals of the guys in Motown. I didn't know Q2 and went with James Brown. Scaratings message board comments were that their was a pilot show and a first episode and Jerry Butler was in the pilot. Unfortunately that was offered as a choice so another badly worded question. Gladys Knight was in the first episode. Q3 got it because the other choices looked dull or dumb or on other shows but wasn't sure about it so couldn't sell it to my friends. (This answer was in the obit I read in February 2012 so I must have subliminarily taken it in). Q4 and Q5 were the kind of questions I was hoping for so folks like me who'd never seen an episode would have a chance. I said after giving out the answer to Q5 "You know what? The answer to that, I know I know I know I know I know..." for the famous gimmick of that song. Q6 I'd heard of that dance as the other choices I think were all 1950s or 60s. Q7 and Q8 more that I like Artist=Song although I thanked Rob for the Jackie Wilson answer from choices with the same pitch of voice. Q9 I guessed (going for the black artist) but I didn't even know they were all saxophone players. Q10 was somewhat of a guess for me. My friends didn't get the last two as I wasn't sure myself. Hey that turned out to be a very good round (9 of 10) for a topic I don't know much about.

Now the Encore betting comes up. Well 50% as usual.

I don't know this. When I think of media owners I only could think of Quincy Jones as someone who was involved in music and with the millions of dollars to pay for rights so I went with him who I know was involved with Michael Jackson etc. Rob and Sean had said their choices as I was still dictating an answer. Ok the three of us for Quincy Jones.

Correct Answer:....2. 'Magic' Johnson

[NTN Extra Fact:...Former basketball star Earvin 'Magic' Johnson's Vibe Holding Company holds the rights.]

I initially put the blame on myself for not reading close enough on his obituary in Billboard back in February. I reread the article after I got home and there was no mention of this purchase back in 2011. I notice on Google searches that the purchase made headlines earlier this month when Johnson promised to revive the show. Now that would have been in a more recent Billboard and I read the magazine cover to cover each week (no time to read the electronic version) BUT I miss on average one a month because there's problems delivering them to me. It wouldn't be my mail that's stolen after it's delivered because I have a mail slot so it's put inside my house. It must get swiped at the Canadian border. Bet that edition was the one where it was mentioned. If I'd have read that fact I'd have remembered it because of the oddity of a basketball player being an investment maven.

I'm wrong and win with my two boards at 20675. I earn 3000+ points for meeting the standard of 18000. I finish 121st in the Playback East district. I finish 8th on this bar's reset Hall of Fame. The bar is 20th on the Network Top 20 in the Playback East district.
