Played at Gabby's in Toronto, Ontario.

Headliner:...THE BEE GEES over The Beatles and The Monkees

I don't have time to really study this week with the soccer season going. Would they choose The Beatles for a third time? I didn't think so but they have too much to study. I found some old notes I'd made about The Monkees so with my limited time I spent reading about The Bee Gees. I own all of their older CDs and found myself reading from a double-CD that gathered all their old Australian recordings together in one package. I owned two old vinyl records of their Australian recordings brought out to cash in on their Saturday Night Fever success but they were incomplete. The CD set had 63 recordings and great liner notes that would help tonight. Rob said he owned the CD too. We argued about which brother singer Lulu (To Sir With Love) was married to--I thought it was Robin but Rob was right it was Maurice. We should do well in this round!

Well let's get started. Q1 was easy enough. Q2 choices were all Andy Gibb songs said Rob but this was by far his biggest hit. Q3 was easy as the choices were just different American states. Q4 and Q5 easy enough. Q6 was tough because of a specific year but I think the answer was the 'newest' date they listed but I knew it was soon after Saturday Night Fever 1977 hits. Q7 easy. Q8....wow choice of animals and two kinds of snakes (as viper was offered too). I think subliminarly I must have absorbed the right answer just reading the old liner notes today. Q9 was also from their Australian days but easy enough. Q10 another specific year but really the only one from that era.

Now the Encore betting comes up. Well 50% as usual. Would this be something from the 1980s or 1990s as there's been no questions about those decades?

Answers:

  1. Too Much Heaven
  2. Night Fever
  3. Holiday
  4. Stayin' Alive
  5. You Should Be Dancing

This was easy enough. 'Holiday' was by far the earliest song choice offered. 'Too Much Heaven' was certainly not disco but it came after the Saturday Night Fever album. I had to sing it to Phil who was joking about the Madonna title.

Correct Answer:....3. Holiday

[NTN Extra Fact:...The 1967 ballad by Robin and Barry is backed by an organ.]

I'm right and stay in second with my two boards at 65265. I earn 3000+ points for meeting the standard of 18000. I finish 9th overall in the Playback East district. The bar is 2nd in the Playback East district.
(ntn.com keeps us in 2nd place out of 1190 with a 65508 average).

Here's how the rest of the bar did:
Player	preEncore Final Rank ntn.com rank
PLBAAB 45500 3 68250 4 5
LITBOX 43510 3 65265 9 19
ROCKET 43510 3 65265 9 19
COSMO 42980 3 64470 10 28
ASTROS 42860 3 64290 10 30
(ntn.com listed 2891 Players Plus players with 2672 having a positive score in the Playback East district).

Our individual scores were quite high so I knew our bar would be ranked high. The game was certainly winnable for us but as usual we mess up the earlier rounds.

This bar is on the subway line and only four stops away from my place. (There's another Gabby's restaurant downtown) I was just afraid that for some reason they weren't connected to the Network. I didn't see any of their players rank in games played all week. I had to wait until the first Countdown results were posted to see that everything was fine. Phil finished #1 at this bar's Hall of Fame for the Playback game. A good score like his wouldn't surprise me but there was only one other player on the Hall of Fame and he played on March 17th, 2012. Rob finished 2nd on the SpeedFreaks Hall of Fame against the one other player (same guy) who was there on March 17th by a 9500 to 9000 score--but that guy probably played alone. I started playing at the bar but the waitress was nice enough to switch one of the televisions in the restaurant part to the NTN channel and to let us use five boards to rank the bar.
