NTN Encore Question of April 7th, 2012.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York, Ontario.

Headliner:...STYX over Toto and Rush

Encore Question:...What album introduces Styx's Mr. Roboto to the world?

Tonight I'm playing with my two boards with Rob COSMO/METLCA, and Phil PLBAAB.

Here's how my game went and my comments:
Tune Up...ROCKET...4500/5000..1st/7...my two win this round.
.............LITBOX...4500/5000...1st/7...I go three out of four guessing.
The Line Up...ROCKET...13500/15000...1st/7.
...........LITBOX...13500/15000...1st/7...I'm in the lead. Phil also goes 9 right and 1 wrong.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...18020/25000...2nd/8...CHATZ wins round.
............LITBOX...18000/25000...3rd/8. I take four -250s this week. Rob gets me one but pulls me off a right answer.
Opening Act...ROCKET...24770/35000...2nd/8.
...........LITBOX...24750/35000...3rd/8.
The Pound key round. I went 7 right for 1000, 1 for +250, 2 for -250, and 0 I didn't answer.
Headliner...ROCKET...46020/56250...3rd/7.
............LITBOX...46020/56250...3rd/7...I go for 10 for 10 for an excellent round.
STYX:...1. The rock group Styx formed in the early 1970s with __________ on vocals:--Dennis DeYoung...2. Styx popular 1977 album was titled 'The
Grand ___________':--Illusion...3. This song about a woman pushed Styx to the top of the singles chart in 1979:--Babe...4. The narrator of this
artsy rock song from Styx is met by a gathering of angels:--Come Sail Away...5. All of these songs were hits in the 1980s except:--Lady (all Styx
songs but this one was from 1973)...6. Which Styx guitarist was a member of the band Damn Yankees?--Tommy Shaw...7. Styx had a 1976 Top 40 song named
for this woman:--Lorelei (good thing 'Mademoiselle' wasn't offered)...8. In 2004 Styx released an album of cover songs titled:--Big Bang Theory...
9. Which member of Styx got his start as a Canadian pop star?--Larry Gowan...10. The central message of this song is that cynicism and bitterness
will drag you down:--Fooling Yourself

The setting on the monitor we were looking at magnified the screen but cut off the top and bottom inch so you'd get to read the question once before the top line disappeared and we could never see who finished 10th or 20th because the bottom line was also cut off.

Q1 Dennis DeYoung was the only Styx member listed avoiding arguments about Tommy Shaw and James Young. I have to thank Rob for Q4 knowing it before I had to guess. I wouldn't have been sure I would have gotten it. The rest of the questions I sailed through alright. Phil had said he didn't want it to be Rush (his favourite band) before the round started as he might miss some questions but then complained about every question about Styx--as if Rush never recorded songs about fantasy like Q4! Very appropriate then to have Q10 directed at our table. Well 10 for 10--we couldn't have done any better if it had have been Rush.

I thought it might be Rush so finally got around to watching a DVD I have--Beyond the Lighted Stage. They didn't grow up in my neighbourhood but the documentary had them drive within a block of my house talking about their early years. Then the extras had a skit where they were trying to find the first gig they ever played--a church basement---but they went to the wrong church. my church, also the docu drove by the grocery store I go to and one of the banks I use. Spooky. The deli they stopped at I don't know but the name I was sure I heard in the DVD Anvil--The Story of Anvil. Larry Gowan of Styx would have grown up the waaaaaaayyy opposite end of town.

Now the Encore betting comes up. Well 50% as usual.

This one is easy enough. The song 'Mr. Roboto' actually ends with the sentence "I'm Kilroy, Kilroy". Rob knows it too. I have so much time that I go over to make sure the players at the bar have answered right. That's how NOT crowded it was here tonight even though it was the Maple Leafs last hockey game of the season playing on the televisions.

Correct Answer:....1. Kilroy Was Here

[NTN Extra Fact:...The song had a resurgance in popularity when used in a Volkswagen commercial.]

I'm right and stay in 2nd place as ROCKET with 69030. I earn 3000+ points for meeting the standard of 18000. I finish 4th overall in the Playback East district. The bar was 3rd in the Playback East district with a 68121 average...COSMO wins and places 3rd on the Network Top 20 for Playback East.
