NTN Encore Question of March 24th, 2012.
Played at The Bull & Firkin in Toronto, Ontario.

Headliner:...NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK over 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys

Encore Question:...One of New Kids on the Block's early hits was a cover of which song by The Delfonics?

Tonight I'm playing with my two boards with Rob COSMO/METLCA, and Phil PLBAAB. I thought I'd figured out how Rob could get ON J as a Players' Plus handle for his second board but any e-mail address we tried got us the fail message. Just before game time he phoned Sean to ask for his METLCA pin.

This week we did play at The Bull & Firkin as without a St Patrick's Day party, there was just a regular sized crowd. It didn't work out too bad as I had gone to visit my father directly from the soccer game downtown and it only took one bus to get from the hospital to this bar.

I remembered why I don't like playing trivia here as soon as we started. The monitors they use have one-third of the size taken up with an in-house advertisement inviting people to play this game. It made the monitors hard to read at any distance. I spent some time squinting.

Here's how my game went and my comments:
Tune Up...ROCKET...4500/5000..3rd/7.
.............LITBOX...4500/5000...3rd/7...our five boards win this week with a better score than last week.
The Line Up...ROCKET...13500/15000...3rd/7.
...........LITBOX...13500/15000...3rd/7...I was 2 for 3 in guessing.
Rob's boards sweep the round. I didn't guess the right Rod Stewart album but "singles on albums" isn't my strong point.
We get a "Rush's lead singer" question to make Phil happy.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...22240/25000...2nd/7...I won this round as LITBOX.
............LITBOX...22250/25000...1st/7. I take two -250s this week. I was pulled off a right answer by Phil but he sounded so convincing.
Opening Act...ROCKET...23740/35000...4th/7.
...........LITBOX...23750/35000...3rd/7...Rob won this round.
The Pound key round. I went 2 right for 1000, 2 for +250, 4 for -250, and 0 I didn't answer.
That was probably my worst week for this round ever. Even answers I've got before like the Rolling Stones 'Sticky Fingers' album art I got wrong.
I also missed the first Live #1 album which was The Beach Boys.
Headliner...ROCKET...44990/56250...4th/7.
............LITBOX...45000/56250...3rd/7...I go for 10 for 10 for an excellent round.

New Kids on the Block hail from what city?--Boston...6. In 2008 New Kids on the Block reunited and released an album titled:--The Block...
7. Jordan did most of his lead vocals for the New Kids. On which song did Joey sing lead?--Please Don't Go Girl...8. On which New Kids on the
Block album will you find 'You Got It, The Right Stuff'?--Hangin' Tough...9. In The New Kids on the Block song 'Step By Step', what was step one?--
We can have lots of fun...10. This song by New Kids on the Block made the Top 40 in 2008:--Summertime

I had lots of time to read my notes about the three boy bands while waiting on the bus to leave the grounds of the stadium. It was in a traffic jam for 40 minutes and I got tired of waiting so got off the bus and walked about two miles north and got on a bus past the traffic jam. The only reason I took this bus was the subway line was closed on my preferred route so I didn't catch the dedicated line streetcar. Lesson learned for next time. The bus ride after seeing my father also gave me some reading time.

Rob almost tripped me up on Q1 as he insisted the question read who was NOT in the group. Lucky I didn't have time to change in time (but neither did he). Again something about the small screens at this place with the NTN game crammed on to two-thirds of the screen. Reading couldn't have got me Q7 but I remembered the high falsetto in their early attempt to make McIntyre the star. Q9 I also remembered the lyric to that but probably would have got it as the only choice that rhymed with 'one'.

Now the Encore betting comes up. Well 50% as usual.

Answers:

  1. My Girl
  2. Didn't I Blow Your Mind
  3. Reach Out I'll Be There

I knew this one right away and ensure the others answer right. Actually there were only two Delfonics songs offered--2 and 5. I was saying at the end of the Headliner round that they hadn't asked this question yet!

Correct Answer:....2. Didn't I Blow Your Mind

[NTN Extra Fact:...'Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time' charted for The Delfonics in 1970 and New Kids on the Block in 1989.]

I'm right and stay in 3rd place as LITBOX with 67500. I earn 3000+ points for meeting the standard of 18000. I finish 6th overall in the Playback East district. The bar was 4th in the Playback East district with a 68757 average...COSMO wins and places 4th on the Network Top 20 for Playback East. He's 1st of 4 on this bar's reset Hall of Fame. That's the third bar we've been to so far so I think this whole city was reset!
(ntn.com kept us in 4th out of 1103 bars in the district).

Here's how the rest of the bar did:

I'm trying to create a P+ account that Rob can used but can't get it to accept. Geez does their system check to see that an e-mail address is legit?
