NTN Encore Question of February 4th, 2012.
Played at The Squire & Firkin in Etobicoke, Ontario.

Headliner:...1975 over 1970 and 1980

Encore Question:...Which song recorded by Simon & Garfunkel in 1975 was on solo albums by both artists?

Tonight I'm playing with my two boards with Rob COSMO/ON J, Sean METLCA and Phil PLBAAB.

Here's how my game went and my comments:
Tune Up...ROCKET...5000/5000...1st/9.
.............LITBOX...5000/5000...1st/9...our six co-win round.
1 for 1 in guessing. I don't know the exact year of Rosemary Clooney's song in a true/false question.
The Line Up...ROCKET...15000/15000...1st/5.
...........LITBOX...15000/15000...1st/5...I think all of our group co-win this round.
I get 10 right and 0 wrong for an excellent round. I thought about half the questions were repeats from the last month.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...21180/25000...6th/9.
............LITBOX...21200/25000...5th/9...I take three -250s this week including one where I switched to the wrong one.
Opening Act...ROCKET...27180/35000...2nd/9.
...........LITBOX...27200/35000...1st/9...My two win round.
The Pound key round. I went 6 right for 1000, 1 for +250, 1 for -250, and 2 I didn't answer.
Headliner...ROCKET...51790/56250...1st/6.
............LITBOX...51790/56250...1st/6...I go for 10 for 10 for an excellent round but the others must have missed hearing my answers.
1975:...1. Who had a US #1 hit in 1975 with Bob Marley's 'I Shot The Sheriff'?--Eric Clapton...2. Which 1975 Grammy winner thanked
Stevie Wonder for not coming out with an album that year?--Paul Simon...3. Manhatten Transfer sings about '_______ Champagne' on their self-titled
1975 album:--Blue...4. Michael Murphey's 1975 hit song 'Wildfire' was about:--a horse...5. In 1975 their song 'Daisy Jane' was a Top 40
hit for these soft rockers:--America...6. Which composer won a Grammy for the song 'Send In The Clowns' in 1975?--Steven Sondheim...
7. This folk-rock singer is down on her knees on the cover of the 1975 album 'Playing Possum':--Carly Simon...8. 'Tangled Up In Blue' was
the first track from of this 1975 release:-- Blood On The Tracks (all Bob Dylan albums but different years)...9. This is the subtitle of
The Doobie Brothers 1975 song 'Take Me In Your Arms':--Rock Me A Little While...10. Which 1975 Bad Company album featured a pair of dice on
its cover?--Straight Shooter

The questions concentrate on one year. Except for reading a list of the #1 albums and #1 singles of each of the three years which probably took ten minutes in total, there wasn't anything else I did. 1975 and I'd still be in high school. They could ask 'all Country music' questions and have been in trouble but they were pretty mainstream.

Q1 easy enough, Q2 Rob thought of it first but I've heard that story. Q3. I've heard that song many times back then on the middle of the road radio station my parents listened to. All the choices were colours and Pink was not an option. Q4. easy enough but maybe a pyromaniac set fire to the barn that the horse ran away from. Q5. I've read the title but can't remember if I'd ever seen this song. Q6. composer rather than artist made this tougher. Sondheim did musicals. Rob thinks of this first. Q7. Rob gets this or that may have ended my run. Q8. I thought Bob Dylan was the answer but it was an album title. Q9. I shout this one out first. Q10. Phil or Sean gets this--with point about shooting dice. All choices were Bad Company albums.

Now the Encore betting comes up. Well 50% as usual. I reminded my friends to bet 50%.

Answers:

  1. My Little Town

Rob says this first while I'm still dictating the question into my microrecorder. I can certainly agree with this. I was thinking the Headliner and Encore would be 1970 and something about 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' as I finally found time to play the DVD from the anniversary of that album. Yep. All the other choices were from they were still together the first time!

Correct Answer:....1. My Little Town

[NTN Extra Fact:...Their split was actually caused by a conflict over just exactly whose little town it was.]
