NTN Encore Question of December 31st, 2011.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York, Ontario.

Headliner:...THE BEATLES over The Byrds and The Band

Encore Question:...All of these songs are on the Beatles 'Magical Mystery Tour' EXCEPT:

Tonight I'm playing with my two boards on my own except I start giving answers to Jeremy JEREMY in the Headliner round. My friends were scattered working, at a party, and sick with a cold.

Here's how my game went and my comments:

Tune Up...ROCKET...5000/5000...1st/4.
.............LITBOX...5000/5000...1st/4...my two win this round.
I was 1 for 1 in guessing.
The Line Up...ROCKET...11000/15000...1st/4.
...........LITBOX...11000/15000...1st/4.
6 right and 4 wrong was bad. One question was "What U2 album contained the song 'New Year's Day'?" which was an Encore question years ago.
No one to help like back then and I got it wrong.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...15330/25000...1st/4..my two win this round.
............LITBOX...15330/25000...1st/4...I took four -250s this week. Repeat of the Linda Ronstadt/Stone Poneys song 'Different Drum' but
without Rob here I got that wrong this time.
Opening Act...ROCKET...21330/35000...1st/4.
...........LITBOX...21330/35000...1st/4.
The Pound key round. I think I went 6 right for 1000, 1 for +250, 1 for -250, and 2 I didn't answer.

Headliner...ROCKET...42500/56250...1st/4...I swept through the round going 10 for 10.
............LITBOX...42500/56250...1st/4.

THE BEATLES:...The Beatles played at this now famous Liverpool club early in their career:--The Cavern Club...2. This early Beatles bassist left
the group to work as an artist:--Stuart Sutcliffe...3. This was the first single the group recorded as The Beatles:--Love Me Do...4. Who met
Molly in the lyrics of 'Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da' by The Beatles?--Desmond...5. All of these Beatles songs were written by John Lennon and Paul
McCartney EXCEPT:--Something (other choices Revolution, The End, Come Together, All You Need Is Love)...
now during the break I turned my microrecorder off and forgot to start it again so the last five questions may be out of order and worded
differently.
6. 'Yesterday' was the first Beatles song to use:--A string quartet...7. Who was the original drummer for their Hamburg tour?--Pete Best...
8. What Beatles song ends with a 42 second piano chord?--A Day In The Life...9. What was the fourth song on 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club
Band'?--Getting Better (the only song actually on that album)...10. What kind of car was on the 'Abbey Road' album cover?--Volkswagon

I had made notes on The Byrds and The Band but not The Beatles. They had been used as a Headliner before on one of the first games of the new format in 2009. I didn't spend time of The Beatles--there's too much trivia on them. I've seen a desk calendar years ago with a trivia question for every day of the year. I'll put my knowledge of owning all their CDs.

I breezed through the questions but almost missed Q6 because I was looking up at one of the hockey games (NHL Toronto vs Winnipeg and World Juniors tournament Canada vs USA) and didn't realize the break was over.

Now the Encore betting comes up. Well 50% as usual. They've already asked a previous Encore question with the 42 second piano chord. Will they ask the first song on their Ed Sullivan show debut a third time?

Answers:

  1. Hello Goodbye
  2. All You Need Is Love
  3. Penny Lane
  4. Come Together
  5. The Fool On The Hill

I pair up the first three as being issued before the television film 'Magical Mystery Tour' came out. Yikes don't think of the show itself which only had 'The Fool On The Hill' which I somehow mix as 'Nowhere Man'. Sure the album was only an EP worth of songs but in North America the second side was a dumping ground for singles. Hey--'Come Together' that belonged on 'Abbey Road'. Yeah that's it. I can tell Jeremy and still have 20 seconds left to tell him about the album.

Correct Answer:....4. Come Together

[NTN Extra Fact:...Lennon's 'Come Together' is from the later album 'Abbey Road'.]

I'm right and win as ROCKET with 63870 although both my boards have the same score. I earn 3000+ points for meeting the standard of 18000. I finish 23rd in North America. I only needed to answer one more question right earlier and I would have made the Network board. The bar didn't rank as we only had three players who stayed the entire game. I finish 6th all time on this bar's Hall of Fame--not bad after such a slow start.
(NTN.com lists us 34th out of 1352 bars with a 32764 average).

Here's how the rest of the bar did:

I took the subway again here tonight BUT after the Playback game I didn't want to wait around for two more hours as my friends weren't here for the ability to ride home for free on the transit after midnight on New Years. Nope I walked home which was a milestone I wanted to do before I could say I was back to normal. I didn't have to stop and sit on a park bench like I sometimes needed to do before my operation. I did realize that I had only walked one way and didn't have any alcohol tonight so I've still got a way to go.
