NTN Encore Question of November 5th, 2011.
Played at The Squire & Firkin in Etobicoke, Ontario.

Headliner:...MOON AND STARS over Clouds and Rain and Mountains and Rivers

Encore Question:...What's the name of the subject of Bad Company's song 'Shooting Star'?

Tonight I'm playing with my two boards with Rob COSMO/ON J, Sean METLCA and Phil PLBAAB.

Here's how my game went and my comments:
Tune Up...ROCKET...4500/5000...1st/6.
.............LITBOX...4500/5000...1st/6...our six all tied.
The LineUp...ROCKET...12500/15000...1st/6...still in a six way tie for first.
...........LITBOX...12500/15000...1st/6.
8 right and 2 wrong was pretty good.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...21800/25000...3rd/6...COSMO wins round with 21860.
..........LITBOX...21850/25000...2nd/6...I don't take any -250s this week but Rob helped ensure that.
Opening Act...ROCKET...27050/35000...2nd/6.
................LITBOX...28350/35000...1st/6...LITBOX wins round.
The Pound key round. I must have gone 7 right for 1000, 0 for +250, 2 for -250, and 1 I didn't answer.
I was too slow to answer on one board and it gave me the next choice but I didn't switch as my first choice was a guess.
Headliner...ROCKET...36800/56250...4th/6.
............LITBOX...38100/56250...3rd/6.
MOON AND STARS:...1. They had their first #1 hit in 1975 with 'Shining Star':--Earth Wind & Fire...2. 'Moon River' was the theme song for this 1960s
musical variety tv show:--Andy Williams...3. Madonna's 'Lucky Star' was introduced on this album:--Madonna (her first album but the extra fact then
said 'The 1990 album also included Justify My Love')...4. A young Elvis apologized to him for changing the arrangement of 'Blue Moon of Kentucky':
--Bill Munroe...5. Which artist scored a #1 hit in 1996 with 'Stars Over Texas'--Tracy Lawrence...6. 'Moonlight Serenade' was the theme song from
this big band orchestra:--Glenn Miller...7. The Paris Hilton song 'Stars Are Blind' ellicited a copywrite infringement suit from:--UB40 [they said
their song 'Kingston Town' was featured heavily in her recording]...8. Which artist sings about a moon over Bourbon Street?--Sting (who was in Toronto
this week)...9. What statement about the song 'Stardust' is INCORRECT?--Written by Artie Shaw (written by Hoagy Carmichael)...10. 'Moondance' is his
contribution to moon related songs:--Van Morrison

I miss out on Q5 by guessing George Strait thinking he was from Texas and would sing something like that--Later I looked up that Tracy Lawrence is also from that state. I also miss Q7 going with Boyz II Men. Rob gets us Q6 but I get us the other three pre-1960s songs.

Now the Encore betting comes up. Well 50% as usual.

Answers:

  1. Billy
  2. Tommy
  3. Bobby
  4. Sammy

I don't know this. I've never heard of this song. [Actually I own this song on the one CD of theirs I own, bought secondhand, '10 From 6', which I've probably ever played twice]. It could be any of the five answers. Because I was sure there's been a Who song asked already tonight, I think it WON'T be Tommy. I choose 'Bobby' as no one else has an idea. Everyone's covering something else.

Correct Answer:....5. Johnny

[NTN Extra Fact:...Johnny dreamed of being a rock star, made it big, and then overdosed.]
It was never released as a single.

Poor Rob is playing with two boards that have both faded. He can't get a wager in on ON J and does get a 50% wager on COSMO but then his board cuts off so his answer doesn't take. He went with Johnny but the answer didn't register.

I'm wrong and drop a place to fourth as LITBOX with 19050 points. I earn 3000+ points for meeting the standard of 18000. I'm listed as 384th in North America. ON J wins as he wasn't allowed to place a wager so stays with the same points.
(NTN.com lists us 57th out of 1615 bars with a 23343 average).

Other games:
7:30pm...Buzztime...ROCKET...812/10000...2nd/3...300+ points...I don't see my ranking. I'm signed on in time to answer two questions.

I would have got the bare 3000 points if I was playing on my own. Rob and Phil got almost everything and I just answered one when they couldn't call out an answer.
8:30pm...Speed Freaks...ROCKET...2000/25000?...4th/5...900+ points...I'm 3385th in NA.
............LITBOX...2750/25000?...3rd/5...900+ points...I'm 3148th in NA...PLBAAB wins.
I answer the ROCKET board until I meet the 2000+ points standard then turn the Playmaker upside down and answer LITBOX until I make the standard then turn that board over as well then help the other players. I wasn't going to risk the -250s by answering before reading the question.
8:45pm...Tuned-In TV...ROCKET...8314/10000...2nd/6...1000+ points...I'm 119th in NA.
..............LITBOX...8439/10000...1st/6...1000+ points...I'm 105th in NA.
9:00pm...Playback (see above).
