NTN Encore Question of September 17th, 2011.
Played at The Squire & Firkin in Etobicoke, Ontario.

Headliner:...BOYZ II MEN over TLC and New Edition

Encore Question:...What Boyz II Men song talks about "making the biggest mistake of our lives"?

Tonight I'm playing with my two boards and with Rob COSMO, Sean METLCA and Phil PLBAAB.

Here's how my game went and my comments:
Tune Up...ROCKET...4000/5000...3rd/8.
.............LITBOX...4500/5000...1st/8...I split one of my boards and went 1 for 2 in guessing.
The LineUp...ROCKET...11000/15000...5th/8...METLCA wins round and has lead with 13000.
...........LITBOX...11500/15000...4th/8.
7 right and 3 wrong was not so good this week.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...18390/25000...5th/8...PLBAAB wins.
..........LITBOX...18870/25000...4th/8...I took two -250s this round.
Opening Act...ROCKET...28390/35000...4th/8...COSMO has lead with 30560.
................LITBOX...28870/35000...3rd/8.
The Pound key round. I went 10 right for 1000, 0 for +250, 0 for -250, and 0 I didn't answer for an excellent round.
Headliner...ROCKET...46140/56250...4th/8.
............LITBOX...46620/56250...3rd/8.
BOYZ II MEN:...1. All of these songs are by Boyz II Men EXCEPT:--No Diggity (the BLACKstreet song)...2. RnB group Boyz II Men hail
from:--Philadelphia...3. An acapella Boyz II Men song is called 'It's So Hard _______________':--To Say Goodbye To Yesterday...4. All these
guys have been members of Boyz II Men EXCEPT:--Dru...5. Boyz II Men topped the charts in 1995 when they sang 'One Sweet Day' with:--Mariah Carey...
6. What's the title of Boyz II Men's 1991 debut album?--Cooleyhighharmony...7. The song '4 Seasons of Loneliness' is heard on the Boyz II Men album:--
Evolution...8. This is the title of Boyz II Men's 2009 album of cover songs:--Love...9. Boyz II Men sang an acapella version of this Beatles song
on their album 'II':--Yesterday...10. This Boyz II Men album won a Grammy Award for Best R&B album:--II.

I swept through the first nine questions calling out all the answers. I had meant to look up the Grammy winners of the three possible Headliners the night before but had already turned my computer off. The next day I thought of it after I was just out the door walking to the subway to go to a soccer game. Yep, that was the tenth question so I had no idea. I went with 'Full Circle' rather than 'II' as I thought groups don't always win Grammys until they're past their prime and they hadn't asked a question about the 'Full Circle' album.

Now the Encore betting comes up. Well 50% as usual.

Answers:

  1. On Bended Knee
  2. A Song For Mama
  3. Motownphilly
  4. Water Runs Dry
  5. The End Of The Road

I don't know this. I find most of their songs have a sameness to them. The only one I know it wouldn't be is 'Motownphilly' because of its tone. I knew the quiz writers hadn't asked anything about the groups longest reign as #1 title (without Mariah Carey). My friends ask what I'm choosing and I say '5' but that I don't know. Sean says he'll take '4' but I didn't know that others would pick that too. From a guy who asked me if the group name was 'Boyz' or 'Boys' he got lucky although he did get 'II' right on the tenth question to sweep the round when I said I wasn't sure.

Correct Answer:....4. Water Runs Dry

[NTN Extra Fact:...'Water Runs Dry' is one of several hits from Boyz II Men's 'II' album.]

I'm wrong and fall to fourth as LITBOX with 23310. I earn 3000+ points for meeting the standard of 18000. I'm listed as 216th overall for all North America. The bar is listed as 11th in NA with a 50550 average.
...METLCA finishes 6th on this bar's Hall of Fame Board.
(NTN lists our bar as 11th out of 1547 with a 50550 average).

Other games:

..............LITBOX...8238/15000...2nd/4...1000+ points...I'm 670th in NA...I'm here in time for the last ten questions.
7:30pm...Buzztime...ROCKET...5402/10000...300+ points...I'm 732nd in NA.
..............LITBOX...6438/10000...1st/2...900+ points...I'm 380th in NA...I split on some TV show I'd never seen.
7:45pm...Buzztime...ROCKET...5946/10000...1st/4...300+ points...I'm 230th in NA.
...............LITBOX...5916/10000...2nd/4...300+ points...I'm 236th in NA...I rank very high but can't earn the bonus points in a tough game.
8:00pm...Topix (Movie Teachers)...ROCKET...12833/15000...3rd/10...1200+ points...I'm 24th in NA...METLCA wins and is 7th on the Network Top 20 for all North America.
...............LITBOX...12821/15000...4th/10...1200+ points...I'm 24th in NA...the bar is 1st in NA with a 12978 average.
I might have got four of these questions (enough for the 4000+ standard) but my friends got here in time to sweep through this game. I can't remember the last time we've had a best bar in North American for many years.
8:30pm...Speed Freaks...ROCKET...(3250)/30000...10th.10...300+ points...I'm 4754th in NA...CLEREB wins.
..............LITBOX...2500/30000...2nd/10...900+ points...I'm 3183rd in NA.
I am answering questions before I even read them but get most of them wrong as there's too many people playing. When I get LITBOX to 2000 and know I have the bonus points, I stop playing to preserve them--too bad it took until three questions left before I could stop and then concentrate on ROCKET. Wow -3250 is really bad.
8:45pm...Tuned-In TV...ROCKET...7880/10000...2nd/10...1000+ points...I'm 275th in NA.
..............LITBOX...7917/10000...1st/10...1000+ points...I'm 263rd in NA.
9:00pm...Playback (see above).

This was only the second week I'd ever played Topix and Speed Freaks.

Some friends of Phil showed up (different than last week) but I didn't stay because I had to make my way home without the subway line I usually take operating. I had left home at 9:30am to get to a soccer game by a combo of subways and buses with a bunch of detours. This is the second time this soccer season that this line hasn't been operating.
