NTN Encore Question of November 27th, 2010.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York, Ontario.
Headliner:...LED ZEPPELIN over Alanis Morissette and Fall Out Boy
Encore Question:...On which Led Zeppelin album will you find their song "Thank You"?
Tonight I'm playing as ROCKET and LITBOX within earshot of Ron CHATZ. There's some others at the bar playing but I'm in the second row at a table and have enough trouble straining to see the monitor. Rob COSMO and Phil PLBAAB don't arrive until The Line Up round is almost over. They then take a place beyond earshot too.
Here's how my game went and my comments: Tune Up...ROCKET...5000/5000...1st/9...my two win this round with a perfect 5000. .............LITBOX...5000/5000...1st/9...I didn't have to guess any answers this week. The LineUp...ROCKET...15000/15000...1st/9...I win this round helping out the players at the bar. ...........LITBOX...15000/15000...1st/9. I go 10 for 10 for a great score...An omen comes when there's a question about 1972 selling out 20 shows in NYC and at that time the bar's music system was playing 'Sweet Caroline' by Neil Diamond. Hey better go with that! Triviaoke...ROCKET...24460/25000...1st/9...ROCKET wins round. ..........LITBOX...24450/25000...2nd/9...I take no -250 this week. Opening Act...ROCKET...32460/35000...1st/9...my two boards win the round. ................LITBOX...32450/35000...2nd/9. The Pound key round. I must have got 8 right for 1000, 1 for +250, 1 for -250, and 0 I didn't answer. Music on the bar's system had Fleetwood Mac playing during a question with them as a possible answer but I didn't fall for it. Good thing. Headliner...ROCKET...48210/56250...1st/9. ............LITBOX...48200/56250...2nd/9. LED ZEPPELIN:...1. Prior to Led Zeppelin Robert Plant and John Bonham were in what band together?--Band Of Joy...2. Which was NOT a Led Zeppelin album?--No Jacket Required...3. You can listen to this Led Zeppelin song without injesting any calories:--Candy Store Rock (all other titles also had candy-names in them)...4. Sex is the subject of this opening track from Led Zeppelin IV:--Black Dog (all choices had the title 'black' in them)...5. Led Zeppelin's 1970 song 'Whole Lotta Love' begins "__________ baby I'm not foolin'":--You need coolin'... 6. The Led Zeppelin hit 'Fool In The Rain' was introduced on this album:--In Through The Out Door...7. Which one of these songs is the first track on the 1970 Led Zeppelin III album?--Immigrant Song (only Led Zeppelin song)...8. The Led Zeppelin folk ballad 'Going To California' is a tribute to this singer:--Joni Mitchell...9. The Led Zeppelin soundtrack album 'The Song Remains The Same' features all of these songs except:--Tangerine...10. "If there's a bustle in your hedgerow" what Led Zeppelin song are you listening to?--Stairway To Heaven.
I go 9 for 10 in this round. I get Question 9 wrong as Bill tells us what he thinks the answer is. I don't know album cuts well enough to say what the answer is so do go with 'Dazed And Confused'. Only other help I needed was on '5' where I was weighing up two logical answers.
Now the Encore betting comes up. Well 50% as usual.
The bar music system is playing the Led Zeppelin song 'Fool In The Rain'. Another omen? That's three times in an hour that the PA system song has matched a question or possible answer.

I don't know this. I can't even narrow it down between the five answers. I do own all the Led Zeppelin studio albums (not the soundtrack album--see question 9) which should give me an advantage over people who got into the group with their 'Mothership' greatest hits compilation. The song was not a single. I'm stuck. Ron says it's '2' and that's enough to convince me and Phil to choose that. I had not gone with his choice for an Opening Act round question holding off for Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' for some lyrics instead of 'Hot N Cold'. This time I had no better idea. One of their first albums? Yes I did read that their second album disappointed some fans because it was more accoustic than their first. The title doesn't sound like it would be a great hard-rock song. I saw later that Ron talked himself out of that answer and went with something else.
Correct Answer:....2. Led Zeppelin II
[NTN Extra Fact:...The song goes "If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you".]
I'm right and win as ROCKET with 72315. I earn 3000+ points for meeting the standard of 18000. I finish 4th on the Network Top 20 in all North America. The bar is 11th in North America with a 45748 average. I finish 2nd on this bar's Hall of Fame. (NTN.com kept our bar in 11th place out of 1612 bars).

Quite a few questions and answers were asked about singles or albums with the words 'Thank You'. Right in the Tune Up round when they asked which song title of 'Thank You/U' ranked higher; Dido or Alanis Morissette, I knew Alanis wouldn't be the headliner. Duran Duran released a tribute album with that name. A message board poster said the Wayne Newton song 'Danke Schoen' translates as 'Thank You'.
I played the earlier games solo and it was frustrating to finish most of the games at under 6000 and not get the bonus points. Always one or two questions that I wished I'd have guessed different.
