NTN Encore Question of January 30th, 2010.
Played at The Squire & Firkin in Etobicoke, Ontario.

Headliner:...CLASSIC ROCK over Classic Country and Classic R & B

Encore Question:...Doug Clifford and Stu Cook were two of the original members of this classic rock band:

Tonight I'm playing as ROCKET and LITBOX with Rob COSMO, Sean METLCA and Phil PLBAAB.

Here's how my game went and my comments:
TuneUp...ROCKET...4500/5000...3rd/5...COSMO and PLBAAB win round with 5000.
.............LITBOX...4500/5000...3rd/5.
I go 1 for 2 guessing.
The LineUp...ROCKET...13500/15000...1st/5...my two win round.
...........LITBOX...13500/15000...1st/5.
I got 9 right out of 10 for a great round.
Triviaoke...ROCKET...19710/25000...1st/5...PLBAAB wins round.
..........LITBOX...19710/25000...1st/5...I take three -250s in this round. If I'd listen to Phil
I would have gotten the Our Lady Peace song (a hometown band).
Opening Act...ROCKET...25960/35000...1st/5...I'm not sure who won this round.
................LITBOX...24710/35000...2nd/5.
The pound-key round. I got six right for 1000, two for +250, one for -250 and one I didn't answer.
A Canadian answer of sorting Tegan & Sara albums.
My LITBOX board was slow to react and missed some answers on this pass-through round.
Headliner...ROCKET....40210/56250...1st/5.
............LITBOX...38960/56250...2nd/5...I think our group all stuck together listening to me.
CLASSIC ROCK:...I expected I'd do better with this category than the other two they offered. I wasn't
sure what the expression 'Classic Rock' meant. In recent times it's meant the hard rock by male artists
that radio stations are playing these days. It could have also been the pre-Beatles era with artists
like Gene Vincent (I was playing his CD this week).
1. In 'Slow Ride' this classic rock band suggests we all Take It Easy--Foghat (the Eagles were not an option)
...2. The Piper at the ____________ is a classic rock album by Pink Floyd--Gates of Dawn...3. This staple of
classic rock radio was written by Gary Beckley:--Sister Golden Hair...4. Which classic rock band found
inspiration and kindness on The Road to Shambala?--Three Dog Night...5. This rock ballad was Aerosmith's first
million selling single:--Dream On...6. Who 'came alive' with one of the biggest selling rock albums of all
time?--Peter Frampton...7. It has long been acknowledged as Tom Petty's homage to Roger McGuinn and The Byrds:
--American Girl (the only Tom Petty song out of all 'girl' titles)...8. Brad Delp was the lead singer of this
popular 70s band:--Boston...9. 'Rock And Roll' was a pure classic rock hit from their 70s landmark:...Led
Zeppelin IV (the only Zeppelin album listed)...10. It's the title of a 70's album by Fleetwood Mac--Penguin
(out of other bird titled albums).

I missed question 3 which ruined the momentum of building bonus points. By the third question I'd caught on that these weren't pre-Beatles era questions but by the Classic Rock radio stations in my city, the group America never gets played. I steered the guys towards 'White Room' the only hard rocking song up there.

Now the Encore betting comes up. Well 50% as usual. I ensure that everyone puts in that wager.

Answers:

  1. The Band
  2. The Doobie Brothers
  3. Three Dog Night
  4. The Cars
  5. Creedance Clearwater Revival

Well first pass for me rules out '1' and '4' as I know the members of those groups. I'm thinking hard and know I bought every CCR album with bonus cuts less than two years ago for about $6 each. They are at the bottom of my CD bag still unplayed. I say that I think it's '5' because the other guys are the Fogarty brothers but that I'm pretty sure about Stu Cook as the drummer [nope, he was the keyboard/bassist].

Correct Answer:....5. Creedance Clearwater Revival

[NTN Extra Fact:...Brothers Tom and John Fogarty were the other two members.]

The others were talking about splitting their answers. I get blamed for not 'selling' them on my answer.

I'm right and win as ROCKET at 60315. I earn 3000+ points for meeting the standard of 18000. I finish 37th overall in North America.
