NTN Encore Question of October 31st, 2009.
Played at The Frog & Firkin in North York, Ontario.
Headliner:...JOHNNY CASH over Bobby Darin and Ray Charles
Encore Question:...A man is haunted by the ghost of a dead lover in this Johnny Cash song:
Tonight I'm playing with two boards as ROCKET and LITBOX without my usual friends. A phone call after I was already here found out they weren't coming despite an e-mail earlier in the day. I would have come here anyway because it is within walking distance but would have been upset if it was the Squire & Firkin which is two different subways over to Etobicoke. I crowd over to the bar and play with the group that is over there.
Here's how my game went and my comments: TuneUp...ROCKET...4500/5000...6th/8...I split my first answer about a Country group. .............LITBOX...5000/5000...1st/8...LITBOX, CHATZ, MADDOG, MR BOBO and JEREMY win this round. MADDOG gets me the Rolling Stones question. The LineUp...ROCKET...12500/15000...3rd/8...CHATZ wins round. ...........LITBOX...13000/15000...2nd/8. I got 8 right out of 10 for a good round. CHATZ gets me one I didn't know. Triviaoke...ROCKET...19670/25000...3rd/9...CHATZ wins round. ..........LITBOX...20140/25000...2nd/9...I don't remember taking a -250s this round. Because it was Halloween, we had lyrics to the "Monster Mash". Opening Act...ROCKET...20170/35000...3rd/9...my two win this round. ................LITBOX...20640/35000...2nd/9. The pound-key round. I only got 500 points this whole round. I sat out at least three questions. I got so upset that on the question which was about the songs on Duran Duran's "Rio" album that when I pressed the pound key at the 5th choice, I must have kept it down too long as it gave me the first answer on the second pass so lucky I looked down and changed it for at least 250 instead of -250. Headliner...ROCKET....34670/56250...2nd/9...my two boards win this round. ............LITBOX...35140/56250...1st/9. Johnny Cash...This is the first Country act that has been featured in the new format. A good crossover choice for Rock fans. The questions weren't too hard. I ring off the first 8 to help build bonus point momentum then miss the 9th and 10th question. This was the only artist I didn't write any notes for to prepare. I read on Wikipedia an overview of his career but even a song list seemed too long to write out. Inspired inmate at his prison concert Merle Haggard, subject of the "Hurt" video, Grammy winning duet with June Carter, subject of Cry Cry Cry song, the 'Outlaw' movement in Country music and song that he didn't win a Grammy for (which I didn't get right) were some of the questions.
Now the Encore betting comes up. Well 50% as usual. This wasn't one of my better games.

I don't know this. I expect it wouldn't be Cry Cry Cry because we already had that as a question about a 'girlfriend's infidelity'. I didn't recognize if these are all Johnny Cash song [they are]. I remember seeing a video many years ago on MuchMusic of "Delia's Gone" that was on a segment of "2 Much for Much" which was a panel show of why controversial videos wouldn't be played on their channel. Cash was carrying a woman's body and the subject was something about murder but I couldn't remember the lyrics. Noone else could think of an answer and that's the only song beside's Cry Cry Cry that I know is one of his so I spread the word to pick this as an answer.
Correct Answer:....3. Delia's Gone
[NTN Extra Fact:...The man is sent to jail after killing Delia and hears her walking when he tries to sleep.]
The final question is appropriate for a Halloween night game. Previous rounds had snuck in the name of the drummer for The Stranglers and the coffin prop of Screamin' Jay Hawkins.
I'm right and win as LITBOX with 52710. I earn 3000+ points for meeting the standard of 18000. I finish 6th on the Network Top 20 in North America. I finish 7th on this bar's Hall of Fame. The bar is 10th in North America with a 38437 average.
(NTN.com kept us at 10th place out of 1485 bars).
I'm stunned that I could be on the board with such a low score. If more of our team besides Ron CHATZ had bothered to risk anything and heard me on this final question we could have finished even higher. I had been accepting praise from this group for knowing so many answers but had no idea that they'd be conservative.
