NTN Encore Question of April 18th, 2009.
Played at The Squire & Firkin in Etobicoke, Ontario.
Headliner:...THE BEATLES over Michael Jackson and The Grateful Dead
I didn't expect that as this was the second time that the other categories were possibilities. I didn't study at all but stuffed the list of bandmembers I'd made of The Grateful Dead a few weeks ago in my pocket before leaving. The Beatles would have been my first choice.
Actually there were a few twists that I could play at all. We were at The Squire for the second week in a row to avoid a possible conflict with the Ultimate Fighting PPV which would have been a problem at The Frog with less monitors. The other thing was: Were the games set to the opposite channel like last week when we had Buzztime 15 minute games rather than the Playback game? That was true again this week but I was offered the manager's code by a fan from the Buzztime web site. Thanks!
A player at this bar offered the same chance but I don't really know if he knew the code or not and whether he actually switched them again after I made the changes the first time.
Encore Question:...On their debut on The Ed Sullivan Show, the Beatles opened with this song:
Tonight I'm playing with two boards as ROCKET and LITBOX with Rob COSMO/METLCA and Phil PLBAAB.
Here's how my game went and my comments: TuneUp...ROCKET...4500/5000...4th/5...COSMO/METLCA and PLBAAB win round with 5000. .............LITBOX...4500/5000...4th/5...I was 1 of 2 in guessing. The LineUp...ROCKET...12500/15000...4th/7...all of us go 8 right and 2 wrong. ...........LITBOX...12500/15000...4th/7. Triviaoke...ROCKET...20787/25000...3rd/8...COSMO wins round. ..........LITBOX...20787/25000...3rd/8...I only take one -250 in the round and was quite pleased this week. Opening Act...ROCKET...27287/35000...2nd/9...my two win round. ................LITBOX...27287/35000...2nd/9. The pound-key round. I get 6 right for 1000, 3 right 250 (2nd chance), and 1 wrong. Headliner...ROCKET...43037/56500...1st/9...my two boards win this round getting 9 of 10 on this week's topic: ............LITBOX...45037/56500...1st/9. THE BEATLES...they mixed in some of this week's news because I saw a photo earlier this week about George Harrison getting his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Paul McCartney posed with Olivia Harrison and it made the mainstream press. I missed the 9th question so it ended my bonus points. I didn't know their only Grammy for best song was for 'Michelle' and picked 'Yesterday' (I guessed it would be pretty conservative). I overruled my friends saying not just Rod Stewart had a song about Maggie Mae.
Now the Encore betting comes up. Well 50% as usual. We know it's about The Beatles. Well from the last round I guess I know about 90% about The Beatles.

I think I know this. I think I've read this in the last two years. Maybe there were DVDs offered about the Ed Sullivan Show. OK I'm in and tell the guys what to pick. How else would I know? Only Ticket To Ride would for sure NOT have been written in 1964 for their first performance. Til There Was You was too slow to make a splash as a first song. That still leaves three but it was just that I'd read this.
Before I typed up this game report, I read on the Buzztime message board that someone had posted the question and answer from my old game report from February 14, 2004 (around the 40th anniversary of their performance). That was a much easier question because only one song listed was from that early era of their career.
Correct Answer:....2. All My Loving
[NTN Extra Fact:...They closed their groundbreaking appearance with "I Want To Hold Your Hand".]
